With nearly 2,800 city employees offered buyouts and a hiring freeze in place, we know this could mean fewer public resources, longer wait times for services, and more families feeling the pinch.
For a community already navigating rising costs and limited access to essentials, these changes can hit hard. Thatโ€™s why We Are One keeps showing up every Saturday โ€” making sure fresh food and support are here when other safety nets start to thin.

But we canโ€™t do it alone. Your donation, time, or voice can help us keep the pantry stocked and the lines moving.

๐Ÿ›‘ Federal Cuts = Empty Shelves ๐Ÿ›‘

In March 2025, the USDA canceled two key programs that had been supporting food banks and schools across the country โ€” including in Houston.

โžก๏ธ Over $1 billion in federal funding gone
โžก๏ธ $11 million in cuts locally
โžก๏ธ 20 million pounds of food lost
๐Ÿ“‰ The Houston Food Bank reports a 25% to 50% reduction in food supply โ€” week after week.

That means less food for families, longer lines, and harder decisions for nonprofits like We Are One.

๐Ÿ’ฌ The need hasnโ€™t gone away. But the resources have.

Weโ€™re still showing up every Saturday to serve our neighbors, but we canโ€™t do it alone.

๐Ÿค Hereโ€™s How You Can Help:

๐Ÿ’ธ Donate to support weekly food distributions
๐Ÿ™Œ Volunteer your time and make a real impact
๐Ÿ“ข Share this post to spread the word and grow support

Together, we can fight back against food insecurity โ€” one box, one family, one act of love at a time.

๐Ÿ’› It is an honor to serve our community.
๐Ÿ–ค It is a blessing to stand together.
๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ And it is a privilege to make a difference โ€” one bag of food, one act of love, one Saturday at a time.

Even large sites like Crosby Churchโ€”who serve up to 500 people weeklyโ€”have gone without distributions due to drops in food bank deliveries.
At We Are One, weโ€™re feeling this impact too. But weโ€™re still showing up. Every week. Every box.
If youโ€™ve ever asked how to helpโ€”nowโ€™s the time.

๐ŸŒŸ Thankful Tuesday ๐ŸŒŸ
Today, with full hearts, we pause to give thanks โ€” not just for the vision, but for the *village* that brings it to life.

To our community leaders, sponsors, donors, volunteers, interns, board members, and mentors* โ€” thank you. Your time, your resources, your passion, and your belief in the power of culture, equity, and unity have fueled our movement in profound ways.

From the Houston Black Heritage Festival and Black Arts Fest 2025 to the work of The Foundation for Black Heritage & Culture, weโ€™ve seen firsthand what happens when we come together to educate, heal, and uplift.

To our mission partners โ€” Houston Food Bank , We Are One Free Food Distribution , Houston Cares Foundation , and the Shrine of The Black Madonna โ€” thank you for standing in the gap, serving where the need is greatest, and empowering our community with dignity.

At The Foundation for Black Heritage & Culture, our mission is rooted in Education, Health Equity, and Community. With your support, we are preserving our stories, breaking cycles, and celebrating the legacy of Black excellence.

๐Ÿ–ค Together, we are creating access.
๐Ÿ–ค Together, we are uplifting generations.
๐Ÿ–ค Together, we are building a legacy that cannot be erased.

Let today serve as a reminder that every role matters. Every helping hand, every dollar donated, every hour volunteered โ€” it all becomes part of a greater story of hope, resilience, and transformation.

Thank you for believing in our mission. Thank you for being part of the legacy.
