It’s here! The Sweet Sol and its sibling, Naufrager Malvasia (same winery but private label) have arrived. Run, don’t walk down to the shop while supplies last. I have already reordered and hopefully we won’t have to wait 6 months again.

Sweet Sol - It’s back! It’s back! It’s back!

…well it will be tomorrow, on Friday, June 12th. I anticipate our delivery to arrive around 1:00.

After being out of stock and requested daily for the last 6 months the Sweet Sol Malvasia makes its return.

I ordered 20 cases, but the shipment from Italy was short so we will only receive 6 cases.

Run, don’t walk (tomorrow) and grab your bottle while it lasts. I have already put in an order for more, but it is hard to say when that shipment will make it over the pond from Italy.

Cheers!

Extra virgin olive oil is packed with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory polyphenols. Experts say that regular consumption is heavily linked to a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, improve brain function, better digestion, and healthier skin.

In layperson speak…extra virgin olive is delicious and good for you!

After a brief outage the Poggio del Moro olive oil is back in stock from Italy. This is truly farm to table where the trees are grown on the property, olives pressed on the property, bottled on the property and sent directly from the Farmer (Luigi!) to us.

Stock is usually limited, so grab one while we have it available.

June Wine Club Wine and Cheese

Introducing our "Featured" June wine club wine and cheese. This one is very exciting. When I attended VinItaly in April I got to sit with the producer of the wine and learn more about it and the winery. This perfect wine for the summer!

Featured Wine - Conte D'Attimis Pinot Grigio Ramato
Conte D'Attimis-Maniago is one of Friuli's most historic noble estates with a winemaking heritage that dates back centuries (back to 1585!) in the hills surrounding Buttrio, Italy. Today the estate is guided by Count Bruno d'Attimis-Maniago, the 18th generation winemaker in the family. Count Bruno, yes a Count, centers his winemaking philosophy on preserving the character of Friuli's indigenous terroir while honoring the regions long-standing winemaking traditions. The family's vineyards are planted on the prized marl and sandstone soils known locally as ponce, which contribute to the structure and mineral complexity of the wine.

The Pinot Grigio Ramato pays homage to one of Friuli's oldest wine styles. Unlike conventional Pinot Grigio, the wine undergoes a brief period of skin contact before fermentation. Most white wines do not see any skin contact, thus the pale yellow color of most white wines.. Because Pinot Grigio grapes naturally possess pinkish-grey skins, this traditional technique imparts the wine's distinctive copper-rose color. The meaning of ramato is copper colored. The wine is then fermented at cool temperatures and aged on its lees to enhance texture while preserving freshness and aromatic purity.

This Pinot Grigio has expressive aromas of white acacia blossom, ripe pear, red apple, wild strawberry and subtle hints of citrus. On the palate the wine is vibrant with flavors of orchard fruit, red berries and subtle floral notes supported by lively acid and a delicate mineral backbone. The wine is dry, meaning it doesn't have any residual sugar, but the plate is alive with the fruit notes acid and minerality. The brief skin contact contributes to additional texture and complexity, creating a wine that bridges the gap between a white and elegant rose'. The finish is crisp, savory and persistent, with lingering notes of pear skin and fresh red fruit.

Drink this wine on its own or pair it to shellfish, crab cakes, prosciutto and melon, herb-roasted chicken, risotto and all kinds of cheese, specifically our cheese of the month, Le'Gruyere from Switzerland. The cost per bottle is $36. Please get your reservations for the wine to the shop by Thursday, June 11th for me to order the correct quantity. The wine will be available to pick up on Friday, June 12th.

Featured Cheese - Le' Gruyere AOP Reserve
This traditional regionally name protected cheese from Switzerland is amazing to snack on, cook with and pair to different wines. It has nutty, grassy, salty and subtle sweet notes. Cooked milk, fresh hay and brown butter are just some of the flavor profiles you might pick up in the cheese. The cows that produce this cheese graze in the Alps in the late spring, summer and early fall, giving the cheese its complex flavors from the grass, berries, nuts and flowers the animals are eating.

To reserve your bottle(s) of wine call the shop at 402-705-0090. The cost per bottle is $36.
