2026 Hartwell Farmers' Market

2026 Hartwell Farmers' Market We are open on Saturdays from 7am until noon unless we sell out earlier. What you see on our tables is fresh from our gardens, ovens and fingers.

We have produce, eggs, baked goods, handcrafts and such, with the proviso that we have to grow or make everything we sell. We are not resellers. If it didn't come from our land or home, we must tell you where we got it. We also must abide by USDA regulations for what can be sold with and without special licenses. All eggs are sold by a person with a candler's license. All plants must be sold by a

person with a plant license. Certain baked or canned goods need a license, but all that we sell do not. Most of the growers use organic methods. They may or may not be organically or naturally grown certified. You are free to ask anyone if they use chemicals. Please feel free to ask us anything about our items and/or practices. VENDOR MEMBERSHIP
Our annual membership is $10 for the season, which includes both Saturdays & Tuesdays. You may also pay by the day at $2.00 per day. All items allowed for sale must be grown, baked, or crafted by yourself, and must come from Hart County or any counties bordering Hart County, including counties in South Carolina. Items allowed include: fresh fruit & veggies, live plants, herbs, cut flowers, honey, jams, jellies & preserves, fresh baked breads, pies, & cookies. We now accept vendors offering locally hand-crafted items. Crafts are limited to 50% of your products offered for sale. In other words, a 50% product to craft ratio. Product is defined as produce, flowers (cut flowers, live plants), baked items, jams, and jellies, honey, etc. 50% is a benchmark and does not mean a literal even split (meaning: one week it may be heavier in one direction or the other based on the growing season). Vendors selling non-craft items may offer for sale up to 50%, items from another grower as long as they also offer at least 50% of their own products. The other 50% of product must also follow the Hart County and surrounding counties limits. You may sell eggs, if you hold a Georgia Candlers Permit. All live plant sellers must obtain a Live Plant License
from the Georgia Department of Agriculture. Any other items that are preserved or canned, ex: pickles, canned fruits, salsa, chow-chow may be sold only with a certification from the Georgia Department of Agriculture. We will supply vendors and prospective vendors with the contacts information to obtain these special permits. Scales are permitted only with approval by the
Georgia Department of Agriculture. We will gladly assist you with any of these permits
and other questions you might have.

Memorial Day Weekend is upon us. We hope everyone stays safe. If you’re out on the lake, please obey all safety rules and enjoy your life. We really enjoy seeing you drop by the market.

The market this week – Don will take the week off. Amanda & Lydia return with their sourdough breads. David dropped by last week with squash. He says the tomatoes are doing well this year, so you might just see him this season. May has pretty carrots, and Nick’s stand is just ablaze with colors.

PRODUCE
MAY’S canopy shaded area is crowded with leafy greens, fragrant herbs, carrots, potatoes and plants for your garden. Easiest description is to just come see it for yourself, and pick something to take home from Green Acres Farm.

Meanwhile, NICK’S Little Friends Farmstead is giving May a nice bit of competition. He knows that he will be bringing Cherokee Lettuce, Russian Kale, Radishes, Beets, Yellow Squash and Zucchini AND Green Beans.

David might try to return with yellow squash, Black Beauty zucchini and Blue Lake green beans.

ODD ITEMS

MILK: AMANDA -- if you want fantastic tasting raw milk from the Massey Family Farm, you can stop by hoping she still has some or pre-order it. Call or text 706-371-0643.

EGGS -- CHRIS will be coming in at 9am to deliver preordered eggs. Hopefully she will have extras. To preorder eggs, text 706-246-5458..

BAKED GOODS

AMANDA will be bringing her regular sourdough loaves, garlic herb loaves, jalapeno loaves and her cheddar and sourdough rolls. Specials will be cinnamon raisin rolls and breakfast bars.
LYDIA will be bringing double chocolate muffins. YUM!

JENNAH- might be able to return this week and bring some of her blueberry bread that was such a hit last year. Fingers crossed. She would also have some plants.

LHYN’S KITCHEN will have her well known spread of pound cakes, cookies, fruit breads and possibly a blueberry or an apple pie. She will also have jams and jellies and preserves.

SHIRLEY has the absolutely best pies, tarts, fruit/vegetable breads and cookies. The pies/tarts are pecan, sweet potato and pineapple so far this season.

PLANTS

SHIRLEY’S Johnson Family Farm, and MAY’S Green Acres, have some beautiful perennial plants perfect for your garden. Every week the selection is different. I think May might have some vegetable plants as well. You can also find plants at DON’s and JENNAH’s tables when they are able to come to market.

Come early for the best selection and pleasant conversation. We are a talkable group..

This coming Saturday is quite a busy day for the middle of May. Not only do we have the market in the morning, but it is National Armed Forces Day along with the FA cup finals (British soccer) the final day of the PGA Championship (golf in Pennsylvania), and the Preakness Stakes (aka the Run for the Blackeyed Susans in Baltimore, MD). If you don’t want that much excitement, you can celebrate National Love a Tree Day resting in a hammock while you sip your favorite concoction in honor of World Whisky Day. The afternoon is a lovely time to commune with nature in whatever manner you enjoy the most.

The market this week – Yellow Summer Squash, maybe some Green Beans, Green Peas, and new Potatoes. Other items that we expect to see this coming Saturday. . . .

MEAT
Check with Mr. STRICKLAND for some pretty, well-marbled beef selections. Folks have come from far and wide to check out what he has in his cooler.

ODD ITEMS

MILK: AMANDA and girls won’t be at the market this Saturday. However, if you want fantastic tasting raw milk from the Massey Family Farm, pre-order it for next weekend. Call or text 706-371-0643.

EGGS & COUNTRY BOUQUETS: CHRIS will have her Menagerie Acres hen and duck eggs in a multitude of colors. To preorder eggs, text 706-246-5458. Daisies are still blooming.

PRODUCE
MAY was given permission to resume limited duties by her physician, so she has returned with tables filled with produce. This week you should see Spinach, Lettuce, mix Swiss Chard, Cilantro, Baby collards, Kale, Green onions, Bok choi, Butter crunch, Red Salad Bowl and Mixed lettuces, bay leaves, AND whatever else is ready to harvest.

Meanwhile, NICK’S Little Friends Farmstead is coming in with a bountiful and colorful harvest. He plans to have Red Russian kale, Queensland lettuce, Cherokee lettuce, Beets, Radish, Garlic, Sugar Snap peas, Arugula, Swiss chard, collards, AND he has a few early yellow summer squash as well as small potatoes! He’s also hoping to bring green beans.

Last week DON brought some broccoli, snow peas and a couple of kohlrabi roots from his multiplot farm along with packages of peanut brittle. Wondering what he will be able to harvest this week.

BAKED GOODS

AMANDA and LYDIA will return next week.

JENNAH has returned. Best Wishes on her recent marriage. She might be able to bring some of her blueberry bread that was such a hit last year. Fingers crossed.

LHYN’S KITCHEN will have her well known spread of pound cakes, cookies, fruit breads and possibly a blueberry or an apple pie. She will also have jams and jellies.

SHIRLEY has the absolutely best pies, tarts, fruit/vegetable breads and cookies. The pies/tarts are pecan, sweet potato and pineapple so far this season. I took home her cinnamon crumb cake. Oh, y’all missed a fantastic treat for Sunday brunch.

PLANTS

DON had some plantable Celebrity tomato plants, and if you ask nicely, he also has a few Big Beef. He also has cucumber seedlings, and might have some annual flowers started.

JENNAH brought in some beautiful Easter Lily plants last week. She’s bound to have something else to plant this week.

SHIRLEY’S Johnson Family Farm, and MAY’S Green Acres, have some beautiful perennial plants perfect for your garden. Every week the selection is different. I think May might have some vegetable plants and herbs.

In case we forget to mention it at the market, Happy Mothers’ Day to all of our ladies whether you have human children, furry children, winged children or just nature at large. Looks like it will be a fantastic weekend to celebrate.

If you visited the market last week, you might have noticed that some folks were absent. It just happens. Sometimes we get surprise vendors and sometimes folks oversleep. We still had a nice turnout to give visitors something to take home. Again, we are heavy in baked goods, but there’s nothing like a homemade breads/cakes/pies for your weekend brunch. Invite some folks over to help you enjoy the treats.

This week – Yellow Summer Squash, maybe some Green Beans and Green Peas, and possibly potatoes. Other items that we expect to see this coming Saturday. . . .

ODD ITEMS
Don’t forget! AMANDA has fresh farm raw milk by the gallon. Come give it a try. Nothing beats home-grown milk from the Massey Family Farm. Want to pre-order? Call or text 706-371-0643.

CHRIS will have her Menagerie Acres hen and duck eggs in a multitude of colors. As the season temps get warmer, and the hens take breaks, remember to text a couple of days ahead to reserve your eggs. 706-246-5458.
CHRIS also tries to bring some country bouquets. Nothing fancy. Just pretty.

PRODUCE
MAY is recovering well at home at Green Acres. We had some greens from her garden last week, and we hope to see that again, but it depends on if there’s anyone to pick it. Leo will do his best. May’s harvest will either be at Shirley’s or Lhyn’s tables.

Meanwhile, NICK’S Little Friends Farmstead is willing and able to make up for some of the loss. He will have Red Russian kale, Queensland lettuce, Cherokee lettuce, Beets, Radish, Garlic, Sugar Snap peas, Arugula, Swiss chard, collards, AND he has a few early yellow summer squash! He might also have green beans and potatoes if they are ready to harvest.

Last week Don brought some broccoli, sugar snap peas and a couple of kohlrabi roots from his multiplot farm. Wondering what he will be able to harvest this week.

MEAT
Check with Mr. STRICKLAND for some pretty, well-marbled beef selections.

BAKED GOODS

AMANDA will have her infamous sourdough, jalapeno and garlic/herb loaves, cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing, and special items include cinnamon raisin sourdough, breakfast bars and blueberry rolls with cream cheese icing.
LYDIA will have apple cinnamon muffins at her table. Please stop by!

Surely missed them last Saturday!

PLANTS

DON had some plantable Celebrity tomato plants, and if you ask nicely, he also has a few Big Beef. He might have some annual flowers started and peanut brittle to snack on.

SHIRLEY’S Johnson Family Farm, and MAY’S Green Acres, have some beautiful perennial plants perfect for your garden. Every week the selection is different. I think May might have some vegetable plants as well. Leo sort of promised to bring some.

Come early for the best selection, especially under Nick’s canopy.

The Merry Month of May will have a damp start, but it’s a welcomed condition for the farms and gardens. I’ve seen some folks trying to get the corn in, but it’s a dry “row to hoe”. My asparagus is making an appearance, but I didn’t dare bring any to the market as it is so very tough – no rain. The rest of my garden has put itself on hold, or bolted, until it gets some moisture.

You’ll see quite a bit of baked goods this week. Be sure to come early, so you can pick up your weekend brunch. There are some heavenly selections to choose from.

PRODUCE
MAY is doing well at home, and she hopes to be back at the market in a couple of weeks. We might have a bit of harvest from her garden, but it depends on if there’s anyone to pick it.

Meanwhile, NICK is willing and able to make up for some of the loss. He will have Red Russian kale, Queensland lettuce, Cherokee lettuce, Beets, Radish, Garlic, Sugar Snap peas, Arugula and Swiss chard. His collards might be ready this Saturday or next.

MEAT
Check with Mr. STRICKLAND for some pretty beef selections.

BRANDON BOWEN (Bowen Family Farm) will be joining us this Saturday. Please welcome him in. He will be bringing: Pork steaks, ground pork, pastured eggs, biscuits, bread and muffins. You can also reserve chicken and or pork packages.

BAKED GOODS

AMANDA will have her infamous sourdough loaves along with jalapeno cheddar and garlic herb loaves, cinnamon rolls and possibly more. Look for LYDIA to bring a mouthwatering treat.

RENEE will probably have her lovely big fritters and buns. I think she might have a double chocolate cookie as well.

SHIRLEY most probably will have some of her delicious fruit/vegetable breads, pies, tarts and cookies along with jams/jellies. Everything flew off her table last week. So Good!

LHYN, always busy in her kitchen, will have her well known spread of pound cakes, cookies, fruit breads and possibly a pie. She will also have jams and jellies.

PLANTS

DON had some nice Celebrity tomato plants, and if you ask nicely, he also has a few Big Beef. Last week he had some annual flowers started for you and peanut brittle to snack on.

SHIRLEY and MAY have some beautiful perennial plants perfect for your garden. I think May might have some vegetable plants as well.

Welcome! Looking forward to the promised weekend rain. Oh, never fear! Unless it is pouring come early morning, the market will be up and running. It’s just that if we don’t get some of Nature’s thirst quencher soon, our summer gardens will be set back and spring veggies will fail. As it is, corn harvest will be late this year, and later means a good chance for insect invasion.

From dreary to hopeful, let’s see what might be on the tables this Saturday.

MAY will be homebound for a couple of weeks, but SHIRLEY will have the Green Acre harvest. Spinach, Lettuce, mixed Swiss Chard, Cilantro, Baby Collards, Kale, Green onions, Bok choi, Buttercrunch lettuce and, of course, yard plants which may include berry plants, blueberry plants and others.

NICK will be backing up the produce with Red Russian kale, Queensland lettuce, Cherokee lettuce, Beets, Radish, Garlic, Sugar Snap peas and Arugula. Swiss chard and collards might be ready this Saturday or next.

DON is back with samples of his harvest. He also has tomato plants ready for planting in your container garden.

AMANDA will be bringing cinnamon rolls with a choice of cream cheese icing or a coffee glaze, regular sourdough loaves, jalapeno and cheddar sourdough loaves, and look for LYDIA to bring something new in the form of a mouthwatering treat.

SHIRLEY, along with all of her duties, will have some of her perennial plants available along with jams and jellies. She might have some of her delicious baked goods ready for your weekend brunch or snack.

LHYN has been busy in her kitchen and will have her well known spread of pound cakes, cookies, fruit breads and possibly a pie. She will also have jams and jellies.

MR STRICKLAND be bringing his selections of beef. You can also find him at the Wednesday afternoon market on Railroad Street.

We are expecting the return of JENNAH, from Whispering Acres, and ZOE from Ray Farms, but haven’t heard of the exact dates of their return.

Come early for the best selection AND to avoid the rain showers.

Join us this Saturday, April 18th, as we open the 2026 Hartwell Farmers’ Market season!

We’ve been gathering in Hartwell for 25 years, and that weekly connection with our neighbors is still the highlight of our season. Look for us at the greenway in the Ace parking lot. We’ve missed you all—come on by and visit for a bit!

Getting down to business, here’s a sampling of what will be on our tables.

MAY is under the weather, but you can be sure that Leo will deliver the veggies and Shirley will be commanding the spread to get you what you need. Expected harvest: Spinach, Lettuce, mixed Swiss Chard, Cilantro, Baby Collards, Kale, Green onions, Bok choi, Buttercrunch lettuce and, of course, yard plants which may include berry plants, blueberry plants and others.

NICK will be backing up the produce with Red Russian kale, Queensland lettuce, Cherokee lettuce, Beets, Radish, Garlic, Sugar Snap peas and Arugula. Sorry to report that his carrots did not make it through the winter, but he will be trying for an autumn crop.

SHIRLEY, along with all of her duties, will have some of her perennial plants available along with jams and jellies. She might not have any baking this week.

LHYN has been busy in her kitchen and will have her well known spread of pound cakes, cookies, fruit breads and possibly a pie. She will also have jams and jellies.

AMANDA is back with her sourdough breads. This week’s options are Cinnamon rolls, Blueberry rolls, Sourdough loaves, Dinner rolls, Jalapeno-Chedder loaves and Garlic-Herb loaves. As a treat, her daughter, Lydia, will be making Cinnamon Apple muffins.

AMANDA also has fresh farm milk by the gallon. Come give it a try. Nothing beats home-grown milk.

CHRIS will have her hen and duck eggs in a multitude of colors. She’s still trying to make up for the hawk damage of last year, but she has bunches of young pullets ready to push out the eggs starting this June.

MR STRICKLAND will be back with his selections of beef. You can also find him at the Wednesday afternoon market on Railroad Street.

JENNAH, of Whispering Acres, will probably come. You can expect a variety of plants, jams and maybe some bread on her table.

Come early for the best selection. It’s going to be a beautiful Saturday morning, and it’ll be so good to see you again.
7am until noon in the Ace Parking lot at the intersection of Ga51 and US29.

11/19/2025

This week we will have a treat. The Bowen Family Farm will be bringing pork to sell at the market, so for our last market of the season you have your choice of beef or pork for Sunday dinner.

Since it is the last market until late April, be sure to get contact info for your favorite vendors. Renee, Mr. Strickland, The Bowens, operate all year. May has folks picking her greens all winter, and Chris will bring you the eggs. Ask everyone what they might have growing in the garden over the winter or baking in the kitchen. Chris and May have hoop houses, so there’s always something tucked away in a warm corner.

Everyone is filling the tables. It’s going to be a warm autumn morning, so come see what’s available and visit awhile --

MEAT:
BEEF: Next week, you can find Mr. Strickland at Hartwell’s Station Market Wednesday evening. He has a FB page “Strickland Ranch”, and check out his webpage: Stricklandranchga.com
PORK: The Bowen Family Farm has a FB page: “Bowen Family Farm”. Check out the website: bowenfamilyfarmga.com

JAMS/JELLIES: Check with Shirley, Jennah and Lhyn.

VEGETABLES:
MAY: She’ll be bringing everything coming up in her garden. Look for a lot of greens and accessories like radishes, onions and peppers. FB page: “Green Acres”
SHIRLEY: she has cayenne peppers and bags of greens.
NICK: he’ll be bringing his tender and delicious Red Russian Kale, lettuce and radishes. You know he picks them from his garden before he comes to market so they are as fresh as can be.
CHRIS: text her, or visit her FB page “Menagerie Acres”.

BAKERS:
JENNAH: She’ll have some seasonal Pumpkin Spice bread.
SHIRLEY & LHYN: Our long-time resident bakers will have all their favorites including pies, tarts, many flavored pound cakes, sweet breads, cookies and other treats.
Get Lhyn’s number if you want one of her pound cakes for a special occasion.
RENEE: You can find her this winter at the Summer House or meet her at the Station Market on Wednesday. www.PiazzaPastry.com
CLARA: You can find Clara’s Crust breads at the Summer House in Hartwell or at the Lavonia Market on Wednesdays. Keep up with her via her page “Clara’s Crust”

OTHER ITEMS:
PLANTS: see May, Shirley.
CRAFTS: see the handmade jewelry at Shirley’s table and the dog/cat toys at Jennah’s table. We had a good time watching Red play with his toy last week. Everyone got a chance to toss it to him.

Don’t forget to set those alarms! Items fly off the tables between 7 & 8:30am.
It’s going to be a wonderful Saturday morning. Be sure to come on out and visit a while.

I hope you were able to participate in some of the activities offered to honor Remembrance Week, Veteran’s Day and the Marine Corps birthday. When you come to the market, you are greeted by an abundance of military vets and family members, and many of our regular visitors are proud veterans.
Leo met May when he was in the Army Signal Corps in Tiawan.
Shirley moved to California when Terry served aboard an aircraft carrier.
Chris was a Navy Nurse growing up with every man in the family being military for generations, and her husband, Jim, was in Navy Submarine Force, and raised in an immigrant family with strong military ties in the US and overseas.
Lhyn’s husband, Thom, rode submarines.
Nick was a sonarman aboard a submarine.
Bob Strickland’s dad fought with the Army during Korea.
Renee not only had a Coast Guard father, but a son in the Marines, as well as other family veterans.

What you might find on the tables this week --

MEAT: Mr. Strickland is with us every Saturday, but you can also find him at Hartwell’s Station Market Wednesday evening. He has a page, and he offers online orders though his webpage: Stricklandranchga.com

FRUIT/NUTS:
KIWI: If available, May will have them.
JAMS/JELLIES: Check with Shirley and Lhyn.

VEGETABLES:
MAY: bags of “greens” as well as green onions, green tomatoes, Bok Choy, Rosemary, Bay leaves, turnip greens, red radishes, winter squash, eggplant, peppers sweet and hot, mixed lettuce. Be sure to check her table. There’s always surprises.
SHIRLEY: she has cayenne peppers and bags of greens.
NICK: Red Russian Kale, Lettuce, arugula, radishes, collards.

BAKERS:
SHIRLEY & LHYN: Our long-time resident bakers will have all their favorites including pies, tarts, many flavored pound cakes, sweet breads, cookies and other treats.
RENEE: This week look for her Strawberry Scones, BUT last Saturday you missed some to-die-for delicious apple fritters. They are good cold, but give them a couple of seconds in the microwave, grab your best friend for coffee, then split a fritter over good conversation. The heat mixes the apple and spices, and the flavor of the light breading comfortably stays with you long after your conversation ends. If you miss her on Saturdays, run over to the Summer House or meet her at the Station Market on Wednesday. www.PiazzaPastry.com
CLARA: If you miss her on Saturday, you can find Clara’s Crust breads at the Summer House in Hartwell or at the Lavonia Market on Wednesdays. Keep up with her via her page.

It’s dark at 6pm, so working in the garden at the crack of dawn is but a distant glimmer. I can still get out in the warmer afternoons to move leaves and blanket parts of the garden, and I do have some cool season veggies started and planned for this winter, but the dullness of winter, even this early, wears me out. Plus, there will be no Saturday market to look forward to. Our season ends in 3 weeks, so be sure to get contact info for your favorite vendors. The Lavonia market usually runs year round, and there’s the new Station Market every Wednesday afternoon on Railroad Street that will remain open.
What you might find on the tables this week --

MEAT: Mr. Strickland is with us every Saturday, but you can also find him at Hartwell’s Station Market Wednesday evening. He has a page, and he offers online orders though his webpage: Stricklandranchga.com

What can be better on a chilly autumn morning than hot pancakes, waffles or biscuits smothered in your favorite flavor? All of our products come straight from our gardens and kitchens. Just plain ingredients and lots of love and experience.
