Some days it seems like forever ago, and other days it seems like last year 😌.

Although….at this point they probably could go on the wall shelves that we had filled with antiques.😉

It was so much easier posting our daily or Holiday specials back in the day, than it is to share the loss of yet another beloved family member.
Ron’s wife Shellie passed away peacefully on Friday morning. She loved the GFC and all of the amazing customers we serviced through the years. She was pretty proud to be a part of it, and did the billing for several years before we sold. Please keep Ron and Alex (and the rest of us) in your prayers as we maneuver through this loss.

Ugh.... I hate this, but more sad news.
Yesterday morning, Kathy Kelly passed away in her sleep. She worked at the Food Center, behind the deli for about 20 years, and was part of the GFC family when we sold. She was with us when she became a grandma... a few times🤗 and when she lost her mom. We saw her through a bad break up and finding love again. She had her (un) fair amount of health issues, and apparently this latest one was something she couldn’t beat 😢.
After we sold, she found a new home working at Walmart in Old Saybrook about 4 years ago, and it appears she loved the kids there as much as she did her Food Center family. I’ll post service information when it’s shared. For now, pray for comfort and peace for Kathys family and loved ones, and if you’d like... share a memory. I’m posting this picture of her and my dad at a Christmas party we had at Aqua in Clinton. We had a lot of fun and I know she’s laughing up there when I tell you that she later entertained the crowd playing Christmas carols on a kazoo! Rest In Peace Kathleen Kelly

  😇Thank you Guilford

Marlene Tolento, who passed away a little over two years ago, continues to inspire community leaders and local businesses to raise awareness and protect against sudden cardiac events.

It's been an incredibly emotional week, as we lost our sister Marlene, the baker in our store for years. Though it wasn't always easy working side by side with our entire family for years, we all know how lucky we were to have that time together. We wouldn't trade putting together those 150 NY Times on Sunday mornings, wrapping up hundreds of cookie platters each Christmas, filling the tractor trailer with special meat orders each holiday season, or the laughter and tears we shared during good and bad times. We feel especially blessed by all of the prayers, gifts, hugs and condolences that we received, and are so happy that our dad and our uncles, Walt and George made the choice to buy a little grocery store on the Guilford Green back in 1968. We are sure they had no idea what a tremendous, incredibly caring and loving community they were buying into. Even though we no longer own that store, we continue to feel the love it brought to us, and to so many of you. We know Marlene has that huge smile on up in Heaven, and is embracing all of that love as well, God Bless♥
