South Thurston County Community Food Network

South Thurston County Community Food Network A collaboration between markets, farmers, and tribes to make locally grown food accessible.

To start the community dialogue between markets (and other associations) about what a community food network looks like and how we're going to do it, in order to increase community accessibility to locally grown, farm fresh food, decrease the environmental impact of an unsustainable food system, and to begin protecting our community's food security in the face of climate change.

Another goal?

"To provide a consistent grocery shopping experience for customers."

As a consumer, I find it frustrating when I drive to a small market for locally produced milk, bread, or cheese, only to find that vendor gone for that week!

The STCFN stand would be able to provide consistent products at all the markets, regardless of vendor availability.

This would also benefit vendors as it would allow for sick days and vacations without affecting product availability for the consumer.

Please remember that we are a not-for-profit, and our vendor fees do not cover our operating costs. We are dependent on community donations to grow.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you in our 2026 season.

We have many purposes and many goals.

One is to unite all the farm stands.

As a disabled person and parent, farm stands are not very accessible.

Many are not along bus lines.

Maybe some stands want to grow but don't want to manage employees or worry about manning their vendor stand.

We want to provide infrastructure that allows local farmers to expand, without the extra work.

Hey guys!

I'm an autism coach who homeschools my autistic kid with ARFID, who can't independently travel to different scattered farm stands for food.

While I have a BAS in Environmental Science, I have a business with my sister who is autistic and has a degree in Psychology.

As "things" progress in this unsustainable food system, it's important to me for the community to start communicating and building a local, sustainable, ACCESSIBLE food system.

But... I'm not a farmer. Or a politician. I don't know the regulations, the red tape, or the legalities.

🤷🏼🤷🏼

I have the beginning of a framework with multiple markets willing to participate and a possible partnerships with a food hub and CSAs as a drop off and pick up location.

I want to partner with local small farmers to sell their product so that they can scale up without worrying about marketing, staffing a vendor stand, or employees. It would also provide a cushion, as experienced by the President of Grand Mound Market, to have sales support for illness, surgeries, or traveling.

There is so much more to it.
So if you're interested in getting involved, please let me know. This is definitely a side-side project and NOT in an area of my "expertise."

Thanks for listening!
