U.S. CATTLE REPORT 🥩 Beef Production in 2026: 10-Year Low with 23 of 24 Weeks Below 500 Million Pounds

USDA's June WASDE report lowered its 2026 beef production forecast to 25.506 billion pounds, down 110 million pounds from the May estimate of 25.616 billion pounds.

If realized, 2026 beef production would be the lowest since 2016, marking a 10-year low. Production is projected to be down 2.912 billion pounds, or 10.2%, from the record 28.418 billion pounds produced in 2022. USDA is also projecting a slight decline in 2027, with beef production forecast at 25.453 billion pounds, down 53 million pounds from 2026.

U.S. beef production for the week ending June 13 is projected at 468.9 million pounds, down from the previous week's projected total of 479.1 million pounds. If realized, weekly beef production will have remained below 500 million pounds in 23 of the first 24 weeks of 2026, highlighting the impact of reduced cattle supplies. Through the first 24 weeks of the year, weekly beef production has averaged a paltry 469.8 million pounds.

Year-to-date beef production stands at 10.986 billion pounds, down 6.3% from 11.727 billion pounds during the same period in 2025. That represents a decline of approximately 741 million pounds from a year ago.
