Last spring, the Grist Mill owners, Willard and Ardi Cordis, decided to stay open another year. They are now planning to close at the end of May, 2026. At long last, we have a viable business plan and are moving forward with plans to open the Goldendale Grocery Co-op. In advance of the launch of our membership campaign, the bare bones of our website are up. If you support the Co-op, please like and follow our page. Come down and see us at our information table at the Home & Garden Show this coming Friday & Saturday, May 2nd & 3rd.

We had a good meeting on Monday and are on the front page of this week's Sentinel! I'd like to make one correction to the story, though. Memberships are either one-time OR annual. If you become a founding member by investing $240, there are no additional costs associated with membership.

Dear friends: A lot has been going on behind the scenes. We have incorporated as a Co-op! We have bylaws! You will be able to view the bylaws on our website as soon as it is up and running. You can also ask for a copy via PM.

We had a lot of discussion about whether to keep the name The Grist Mill or change it to a new one. It was a hard decision. We consulted with Food Co-op Initiative (https://fci.coop/), a non-profit organization whose mission is to help start new co-op grocery stores. It was their recommendation that if we substantially change the store’s offerings to attract new customers, we should change the name. They also recommended that the name contain the word “food” or “grocery.”

We will need many new customers to make the store sustainable, therefore, we have a new name. The new name is Goldendale Grocery Co-op!

There's a lot to do and we could use your help. Please PM if you would like to volunteer with us. Some of the volunteer opportunities are:

Data entry
Help organize a community meeting
Help manage our page
Help with the membership drive
Become a board member

We are working on our business plan and financing options and have set a soft opening date of September 1, 2025.
