To the last whisper of summer,
September 5, 2026
The low hum of crickets chirping, the clouds painting a final canvas, and a barn swallow's empty nest, from the season before.
My name is Caleb Young, [third born son] I write to you today to share a piece of my family, our hearts for you, and a piece of myself. Looking back over the summer, we started our season worried about a late unexpected frost. As time went on, flowers bloomed and blush started to peak its way into each peach and tomato. We were so very thankful that we still got a great harvest of apricots, plums, berries & more.
Community.
We've been in Gettysburg for over twenty years, my father making a point to hand people half a peach as it dripped and say "try this, this, is a real peach". Even as we have expanded to the Adams County Market (https://www.acfarmersmarkets.org/) , we intentionally teach and reach the people who haven't tasted an apricot or cherry since when they were kids, picking it off the tree. We are so blessed to have each of you; returning customers, friends, and family to be a part of The Lion Potter.
Me,
I've spent a lot of time traveling recently, going from spaces where the very air itself smells sweet, or where the buzzing of mosquito wings seems comical. No matter where I go, this Interior of my soul follows; built over time by history, beauty, and utility.
For the past six months I have been learning as my company Begone Junk Removal has become more consistent. I have seen many structures of thought and the architecture of peoples mind. As they reminisce or talk about a bike, that hasn't been used since the kids went to college. Or how trying to clear a space is difficult when opening boxes of tender memories.
It has shown me just how much value we all can put into something that may seem odd to someone else. I've heard it said one mans trash is another mans treasure, but more and more I see that one persons memory is forever their fortune.
Home.
When I was little, my father would tell me, "When you work, take the time to find the accomplishment in it, and all the sudden your attitude shifts, and it's no longer work, but a privilege."
A new challenge has arisen with my family this year, as I have started a company, working with my hands and doing what I love, but finding tension in time and space. Of course every parent wants their child to find the wind under their wings and yet, I also find myself at times opening boxes of tender memories, thinking how to unpack or pack it all up. My family has been so graceful and has supported me every step of the way as I wrestle; To lean towards utility and logic or, understanding and love. Its never simple, but, was it ever meant to be?
Some of our first true espresso mug shapes.
These have been my mom's fascination this summer. In our shepherd green glaze, these pocket-sized mugs are featured both in a smooth-bodied shape and a fun twist and swirl. We are so excited about this new addition to the summer collection!
Designed to highlight each meal you choose to enjoy with these dishes. We are proud to be with you in your everyday with our bowls.
