It has been 72 days without Mom here on this side of heaven.
As I sit here this evening overlooking the farm, I find myself wrapped in a lifetime’s worth of memories.
She was as beautiful as her name, Amber Dawn.
I watched while cancer slowly took so much from her; her hair, her strength, her ability to walk, her memory, and eventually, her life. It had spread through nearly every organ in her body, but somehow, it never touched her spirit!
That was my mom.
She carried more than most people will ever know. She cared deeply, gave selflessly, and poured every bit of herself into the people she loved. Even when she was tired, even when she was hurting, she still found a way to show up.
After everything I have been through in this life, all the loss, all the tragedy, all the moments that have changed me forever, I know two things are for certain; time is something we can never get back once it is gone. And, you must put God first. Put him first in EVERYTHING you do. Because your eternity depends on it.
Normally at this time of day, I would call her up and give her a recap of my day, but instead im sitting here with a lifetime’s worth of memories she left behind. Beautiful memories, beautiful like her smile, beautiful like her name. And for that I'm thankful!
"He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end." - Ecclesiastes 3:11
