It’s a glorious time of year in the parterre garden. When you book a stay in the Cabin, you’ll have this private special garden all to yourself. The view out that back is just as lovely: perched on a big rock, the Cabin overlooks the headwaters of the Rapphannock River.

We love greens season! We’re growing baby kale, arugula, mustard, spigarello, lacinto kale, dandelion and lettuce this month, and bags of our greens are fresh in the farm store this weekend. Come on by! 🥬

The goats are back! Working with Beth Bailey of , we are using goats to help eradicate invasive Autumn Olive in the woods. These goats are in the same area we hit last fall - we think it will take 3 separate grazings to really knock it back. Watch Rocky, the biggest goat of the herd, say hello here!

One more throwback from our English adventure a few weeks ago! We had an amazing time visiting Charlie Burwell at in Sussex, learning all about their operation. 🌱

Charlie and his wife, Isabelle Tree, are the pioneers of the Wilding movement in England, focused on the idea of letting nature take the lead rather than tightly managing the land for fixed outcomes. Instead of trying to force a particular habitat, Knepp uses free-roaming cattle, ponies, pigs, and deer to create a shifting mosaic of scrub, grassland, wetland, and woodland that supports more wildlife.

The result has been a major biodiversity rebound - a 900% increase in birds, insects, dragonflies. We left inspired, and hopeful! 🦋

We hosted our first tea-tasting last week at Chancellors Rock! It was a perfect way to bring together neighbors, and friends old and new for delicious teas, sandwiches, and desserts. With early May sunshine spilling into the pool house and great company…it was a day to remember! Thanks to Bonita () for curating a beautiful blending and tasting experience!!!

Royals in Front Royal! One week ago, I got to meet King Charles and Queen Camilla on their US visit!

A truly once in a lifetime experience to have them to this corner of the Shenandoah Valley and to get to shake hands with the royal couple! 🇬🇧

🦃 Turkey update! Our hen hatched her eggs, and we moved them all in the coop so they will survive. I marvel watching her teach them how to forage and to roost! The toms have found them, and parade in their full glory outside the coop, but which one is the proud dad?

A postcard from England last month! 🇬🇧 My favorite garden in the world is , William Robinson’s estate in England, where he lived in the late 1800s. He used bulbs as a key part of his “wild garden” style, naturalizing huge numbers of daffodils, narcissi, and other bulbs in meadows, woods, hedgerows, and lawn so they blended into the landscape. 🌼

He scattered bulbs and seeds by hand up to the end of his life, to strengthen the naturalistic effect. A century later, I marvel at what he created, and it inspires my bulb-planting today.

Now a lovely hotel and Michelin-starred restaurant, it is a must-see if traveling to England!
