This week we spent time walking the tree rows and cutting any suckers.

Suckers are new shoots that emerge from the ground or around the base of a tree. They steal valuable nutrients and water from the tree, reduce flowering and fruiting, and make trees more prone to disease and pests.

We also got our pumpkin seeds tucked into the soil and ready to grow. Now we cross our fingers for rain!

We are now in petal fall stage when we learn which blossoms actually got pollinated and will become apples. Each flower bud produces multiple blossoms. The center King bloom opens first, and then side blossoms after. We actually don’t want every blossom to become an apple, just 1-2 per bud at most. This year was cold and windy so the bees struggled to get out and pollinate, and we may have lost some to frost. Only time will tell!

New raspberry plants are officially in the ground! The canes got planted, drip line rolled out and mulched. Now we are patiently waiting and dreaming about harvesting sweet fall berries.

It was the perfect spring week and we’ve been busy at the orchard!

🐝Our bees have arrived and are hard at work pollinating the apple blossoms.

🌳We planted over 100 new apple trees including a new variety to our orchard.

🚜We prepared our pumpkin fields for planting and new section for fall raspberries.

Spring is finally here! 🌱☀️

We’ve been busy in the orchard finishing up winter pruning on all the apple trees. Cutting away the old to make room for strong, healthy growth and a great crop ahead 🍎.

Looking forward to sunshine, fresh air, and another year in the orchard!
