STAFF FAVORITE!
One of the staff’s favorite products at Felton Nutrition is Black Cumin Seed oil. A number of customers have tried it and come back to say that their eczema and psoriasis have improved, and that they wanted more!
Also known by its scientific name, Nigella sativa, black cumin seed oil has been used medicinally for thousands of years. In fact, it was found in King Tut’s tomb! One of the main components of the seed, thymoquinone (TQ), is a powerful compound. Animal studies have shown that the TQ has strong immunomodulatory action. That means that it can be very helpful with autoimmune conditions, including eczema and psoriasis, our customers have found.
A natural remedy is always more intriguing when Big Pharma wants to get their hands on it, isn’t it? It appears Nestle is very interested in Nigella sativa as well - in particular, the thymoquinone. Nestle has applied for a patent related to the seed which activists believe will result in Nigella sativa monopoly. Nestle claims the patent will allow them to “protect the use of molecules, which act on opioid receptors for treating or preventing food allergies”. * Lots of people aren’t buying their argument, and a petition to prevent Nestle from gaining the patent has over 700,000 signatures is currently active. Find the petition at http://action.sumofus.org/a/nestle-nigella-sativa/?sub=homepage.
But that’s not all! Hundreds of studies have been carried out to learn the benefits of the TQ in black cumin seed oil. Researchers have found that it has anti-cancer properties and anti-oxidant activity. For example, it was found to inhibit the production of two compounds that are required for colon cancer cells to survive. No one is saying that black cumin seed can cure cancer, but there’s growing evidence that it helps. If you are interested in reading an article that takes a close look at a large number of TQ studies, go to http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2583426/ .
Most sources say to take one teaspoon of the oil an hour before breakfast. It can be taken with honey or juice, or just plain if you don’t mind the bitter/spicy taste. For autoimmune problems, some traditional medicine practitioners recommend taking fresh garlic, too.
If you are interested in how you can use black cumin seed oil, come on in to Felton Nutrition and talk to Richard or any of our other staff. They can help!
