What a great way to add some sunny color to your garden. These smaller sized Sunflowers are grown for cutting and add bright yellow and mixed color petals to your beautiful cut flower garden.

For longevity of blooms add these mixed tone Gloriosa Daisies (they have a similar color structure as the Sunflowers) and maybe some of these beautiful Cone Flowers. Your sunny garden with shine with color.

We have some beautiful green tomatoes in our produce section right now at Jackson Family Farms.

Being from the South when I think about green tomatoes i automatically think Fried Green Tomatoes, and indeed I love them. But there is so much more to the green tomato.

Here are a few other ideas:

* Apple and Green Tomato Chutney
* Salsa Verde (substitute fur tomatillos)
* Southern Chow Chow
* Roasted
* Pickled

Hardy Hibiscus aka Dinner Plate Hibiscus

Happy Saturday!

Let's start this weekend off by looking at a Southern Favorite, the Hardy Hibiscus.

This beautiful, large-bloomed plant in its prehybridized form has been a part of the Southeastern United States for centuries. However, it was in the 1950s that its current hybrid form with its exceptionally large blooms made it into our landscapes.

Hardy Hibiscus love and need full Sun, they are a perennial, with cane-like stems that die back in Winter but return with the warmth of Spring. These plants resemble tropical Hibiscus in their flowering form but unlike the tropicals they return each year to grace our gardens.

Full Sun, consistent watering, fertilizing every four weeks during the growing season will provide you with an awesome blooming plant throughout the Summer. Its blooms will range from saucer size to dinner plate size when properly fed and cared for in your landscape.
