Visit the farmers who grow the food they sell. Some produce can be purchased from other farms if not grown in the area or by a EFM vendor, ie Cherries. They will always be from MI, in season and not an auction/warehouse. All artisans and craftspersons make their own product. Season for 2022 begins on June 11th and concludes on October 8th. We accept the Bridge Card, DUFB, WIC, Senior Market Fresh

and Spectrum vouchers with our participating vendors. We also offer direct deposit for these programs.

When it comes to food safety information, there are a lot of "bad eggs" out there providing information that is incorrect or just plain unsafe. It's important to ensure the information you're getting is from a proven source, such as a university extension office or government agency like the USDA.

Follow these tips from our friends at MSU Extension to safely enjoy your poultry products:

🚰 You should not wash raw chicken before preparing it. Cooking, baking, broiling, boiling or grilling to the right temperature kills the bacteria, so there's no need to rinse it off.

🧼 Hand washing after handling raw poultry or its packaging is essential to avoid cross contamination. Wash your hands with warm water with soap for at least 20 seconds before and after handling food items like poultry.

🌡️ Using a food thermometer is the only sure way of knowing if your food has reached a high enough temperature to destroy foodborne bacteria. The recommended internal temperature for properly cooked chicken is 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

These practices will help you avoid "fowl play" when preparing Michigan farmers market fresh poultry products!
