As the heat simmers down, enjoy some snapshots of our Hot Pepper Eating Contest from this past Tuesday! 🌶️

Celebrating the punch that locally-grown peppers can pack, our hosts Ben (Crossroads Farm) and Chris (Loud Peppers) grew each of the peppers that our contestants ate their way through, one by one. Live musicians Bendrethegiant kept the tempo up as sweat and tears started to flow.

Our final three contestants made it to the bonus round, and when two couldn’t handle the heat, only one could be crowned Pepper Eating Champion. Congratulations to our winners:

Stop by this Saturday, October 3 at noon for the first Im(Perfect) Food Faceoff at the Eugene Farmers Market Pavilion (85 8th Ave., Eugene).

This fast-paced, 20-minute cooking competition will put two local chefs to the test using imperfect foods sourced from Lane County Farmers Market vendors. Watch as they race the clock to transform perfectly good—but less-than-perfect—looking ingredients into mouthwatering dishes, proving that great food doesn’t have to look perfect. Attendees can enjoy tasty samples and practical tips to reduce food waste. The event will be livestreamed online via the Waste Wise Lane County page, and James Beard semifinalist Isaiah Martinez—chef and co-owner of Yardy Rum Bar—will emcee the event.

Can you feel the heat yet? Our Hot Pepper Eating Contest is just a few days away on Tuesday, September 29th 🌶️

Our 15 contestants will face 10 levels of hot peppers, ranging from a jalapeño up to a reaper, for their chance to be crowned LCFM's 2026 Pepper Eating Champion. Join our hosts, Ben Tilley of Crossroads Farm and Chris Wormsley of Loud Peppers at 12:00PM at the Farmers Market Pavilion for the hottest thing you’ve seen this year.

The contest is free to watch, and our free pepper sampling table is a great way to try new varieties of peppers and pepper products! Try locally-grown sweet and spicy peppers, salsa, pepper jam, hot sauce, hot honey, and more right alongside our Tuesday Farmers Market from 9:00AM to 2:00PM.

Join Micheil Peck-Book this Saturday, September 26th, for a cooking demo featuring a special twist on one of his favorite things: sourdough! Micheil will be teaching his method for making sourdough tortillas, and preparing some veggie tacos using them. 🌮

This In Season cooking demo starts at 11AM and 12PM inside the Pavilion, and is FREE to attend!

About the chef:
"My name is Micheil Peck-Book and I am the owner of Cook-Book's Bakin' ( ). I specialize in making baked goods using sourdough, from bread to cookies. I am a cottage baker and have been baking with sourdough for 2 years. This is my first year of selling my goods at the farmers market and it has been an absolute blast! I love seeing and hearing people enjoy the products I create. I look forward to making delicious food for you all to enjoy. Come make some sourdough veggie tacos with me this Saturday!"
