A Journey, Not a Race. 🇺🇸
In 2023, Charley’s journey began when he attended a marksmanship training through a youth program called the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps. The training was held at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio during the CMP Nationals.
Since then, it became obvious that Charley had a natural ability and gift. But more importantly than shooting itself, we watched him take the lessons he was learning — discipline, patience, focus, leadership — and apply them to every other aspect of his life.
Since that first training, he has gone on to be recognized as Sea Cadet of the Year both within his division and regionally — an incredible honor that reflects not only his talent, but also his ability to lead, mentor, and encourage other cadets around him.
Then he started competing… and honestly, as a family, we just did whatever we could to help nurture this dream.
From Leena teaching him how to grill in order to save money…
To making sure he got to every match possible…
To his dad working weeks away from home…
To watching Char work his tail off so he could earn his way to competitions…
And yes… maybe even begging all of you to buy bread. 🤭
Okay… better said… attending as many farmers markets as possible. 🥖❤️
But truly — every loaf, every market, every early morning and late night has helped support this journey.
So where am I going with all of this?
I HAVE to share in the excitement…
Charley is now only TWO points away from earning his Distinguished title through the CMP program. He currently holds 28 EIC points — and even more exciting, he has already earned a Gold, Silver, and Bronze leg along the way.
For those unfamiliar, earning Distinguished is one of the highest honors in competitive marksmanship and can take years of competing against some of the best shooters in the country.
This week, Charley is currently shooting with the Navy Marksmanship Team in Quantico. He has this upcoming match and then Nationals at the end of July to earn those final 2 points needed for Distinguished status. In less than 4 years and with just turning 18.
Words honestly cannot express how proud we are.
I would also love to start brainstorming some sort of fundraiser or sponsorship opportunity — not only to help support Charley’s journey, but also to help support other kids traveling to Nationals in July. When I asked Char about this last night, he said “Mom, I’ll be enlisting soon, but if I can help someone else nurture their talents.. I want to do that.”
If you’re still reading all of this… thank you. Truly. ❤️
And if you have fundraiser or sponsorship ideas, I would absolutely love to hear them.
