We had the opportunity to meet Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton while sharing more about Shared Harvest’s vision to bring a food co-op to Elgin.

It was encouraging to talk about the importance of strengthening local food systems, supporting local farmers, and expanding access to fresh, nutritious food in our community. These are the values that continue to guide our work as we build this community-owned market place, growing a more resilient local food economy.

Join the Pledge. Support Local. Share the Harvest.

We believe that strong communities grow when we invest in ourselves — in our neighbors, our farms, and the food systems that sustain us. When you take the “Illinois Product Pledge” (commit to spend just $10 a week on Illinois-grown or produced food) you’re doing more than changing your shopping list.
You’re:

• Backing local farmers, food producers and manufacturers.

• Keeping dollars circulating right here in Illinois — building economic resilience in our region.

Did you know? Researchers estimate people consume tens of thousands of microplastic particles every year.

Switching to reusable bags is one simple way to reduce plastic pollution at the source.

The City of Elgin, Illinois Government is exploring how to reduce single-use items in our community. The Elgin Sustainability Commission has recommended that City Council consider an ordinance banning single-use plastic checkout bags.

Why choose reusable bags? Here are 3 great reasons:

🌎 1. Less Waste: Reusable bags cut down on plastic pollution that breaks into microplastics and spreads into our water and food.

🌍 2. Stronger & More Convenient: They hold more, last longer, and won’t tear.

🌏 3. Saves Resources: Reusing a single bag reduces the need to produce countless plastic and paper bags.

Before the city makes any decisions, they want to hear from the community.

➡️ Take the short 3-minute survey: Engage.ElginIL.gov/Single-Use-Bags

Help spread the word — please share this survey with your network! Your input will help guide Elgin’s next steps.
