I’ve had the opportunity to sit in on the last CNME Coop Board of Directors meeting held on 3-26-26 and it was an eye-opening experience. Any member of the Coop can sit in at a board meeting, and I highly suggest you do so if you are member of the Coop!
I saw two major issues that the Coop is facing. Upgrading our infrastructure to keep the grid safe and efficient and employment within the coop. We have a great pool of employees currently, but it seems that we are losing journeyman lineman when their training is done with the coop. Certain positions need to be filled in as well to keep the efficiency of the coop running. Employees are being taken off their tasks to fill areas that need help or that are lacking employees to do the specific jobs. We need to be sure that key positions can do what they have been hired for.
The infrastructure of the coop needs to be updated and that is a priority of the Coop now to get it done quickly, safely, and economically.
I also saw issues within the board. Some new members were not fully focused on the tasks at hand during the meeting. Information is presented to the board to review, and I saw members not paying attention to the information provided. Be it looking at their phones during discussions, nodding off during discussions, not looking at the info provided for the tasks at hand, and even someone participating in a separate online meeting outside of the coop board meeting.
If elected to the board, I can guarantee that I will be fully focused on the tasks at hand. There are opportunities for training and certification that are required but should not take away from being prepared for the meeting and tasks at hand. The coop reimburses the board for training that is necessary out of state, but the coop needs a board member that is also present at the board meetings locally. I can guarantee that I will be present and focused at the board meetings that are held once a month to help the coop with their prioritized needs.
