Raising Poultry- Life Perspective

Unfortunately, Mother Nature can be so cruel. This evening we lost one of our guinea fowl to a hawk. It was a disturbing scene to witness, but I understand that's how nature works. We all have to eat.Thankfully, all of the other birds ran for cover and stayed in the coop for hours until they finally felt safe enough to come back out. I do my best to protect my flock, but sometimes Mother Nature finds a way.And just because guineas are excellent alarm clocks doesn't mean they can defend themselves. They're quick to sound the warning, but they're still vulnerable to predators. Farm life comes with its share of heartbreaks, and tonight was one of those moments. Rest easy, little guinea. 💔🦅🐦‍⬛

🍁✨ Fall on the homestead hits different — the air gets crisp, the leaves start showing off, and apparently the praying mantis population decides it’s their time to shine too.
Y’all… I stepped outside this evening and one was perched on my porch. Just vibing. Watching me. Judging me. Probably plotting. These little green ninjas blend in with the fall colors so well that I’m convinced they’re part of the seasonal décor now.
But honestly, I love it. Fall brings out all the magic — the cooler temps, the shifting colors, and these tiny guardians keeping watch over the homestead like Here’s to cozy evenings, crunchy leaves, and unexpected mantis encounters that make homestead life feel like a nature documentary 🍂🦗

So I’ve officially raised guinea fowl for six months now… and I’m convinced I got a special batch because NOTHING I read online matches these creatures 😂
Every article says guineas are wild, independent, loud, flighty, and basically allergic to domestic life.
Mine?
Mine think they’re chickens.
They want to be with the chickens.
If I kick them out of the run, they stand right at the fence yelling like toddlers locked out of the house, begging to be let back in 🗣️🐦
And the funniest part? These birds can fly perfectly fine… but choose not to.
They just waddle around complaining instead.
Bedtime?
Oh, they go to bed with the chickens.
Right in the coop.
Like they pay rent.
They also don’t scream nearly as much as I was warned — but when they do decide to sound off, it’s like a smoke alarm with emotional issues.
And here’s the kicker…
If you yell “SHUT UP!”
They actually stop.
I don’t know if that means they understand English or if they’re just scared of my tone, but either way, it works 🤣
So yeah — six months in, and my guineas are basically confused chickens with trust issues and selective hearing.
Wouldn’t trade them though. They’re ridiculous, but they’re my ridiculous.

🐛🔥 Meet the Puss Caterpillar… Nature’s Tiny, Furry Menace found on the homestead…

This little inch‑long fluff ball looks like a mini Persian cat with a fresh blowout. Colors range from soft gray to golden brown to deep charcoal, sometimes even sporting a bright orange racing stripe. Early babies are so curly they look like they just stepped out of a cotton‑candy machine.
But don’t let the glam fool you — that “fur” hides venomous spines that can deliver pain people describe as white‑hot, broken‑bone level, or blunt‑force trauma. Touching one can cause burning, swelling, nausea, rashes, blisters, and pain that shoots up your arm like lightning. Some folks even get chest pain or trouble breathing. 😳😱
The adult moth? Still fuzzy, still fabulous — covered in long orange‑to‑yellow fur with fuzzy black feet. But the caterpillar itself is the real troublemaker.
Moral of the story:
If you see a tiny glam‑rock cotton ball crawling around… admire from a distance. 😅🔥
