GOLF CART REGULATIONS

Each spring, the Dundee Police Department receives many calls about laws governing golf cart use within the village limits. A link is provided above to Michigan Compiled Law Section 257.657a which addresses golf cart use on public roadways in cities, villages and townships.

Golf cart use is permitted in the village and no registration or licensing is required from the village or the State. However, please review the law in its entirety if you do plan to operate a golf cart on village streets.

Some of the more important reminders are;

The maximum golf cart speed allowed is 15mph

Golf carts may only be operated by a licensed driver, 16 years of age or older.

Golf carts may only operate on public streets with a speed limit of 30MPH OR LESS. Golf carts may CROSS M-50 but are not allowed to operate upon it or any other state highway.

Golf carts may NOT be operated on public sidewalks.

Golf carts may be operated on local streets beginning 30 minutes AFTER sunrise and until 30 minutes BEFORE sunset.

Please follow all equipment requirements listed in the link and adhere to the maximum person capacity per seating on the cart.
