Getting ready for the long cold winter, our worker honey bees doing the best they can to get as much pollen to feed them during the Winter. Honey bees visit daisies because the flowers feature flat, open discs that give easy access to abundant pollen and nectar.
Why Daisies Attract Honey Bees
• Easy Access: Daisies have flat, shallow flower heads where bees can easily land and walk across the central disc florets.
• Nutritional Value: The central yellow portion supplies rich pollen (which provides protein and fat for growing bee larvae) alongside usable nectar for energy.
• Reliable Source: Varieties like Oxeye daisies and Shasta daisies help sustain pollinators when other seasonal blooms are low.
