Here is our lose guide to stages of baby food—
*all babies are different so go with your needs for your baby!*
Stage 1) all purées. 1 vegetable or fruit flavor. Identify likes and dislikes, as well as allergies are easier if you start this way. We recommend starting with vegetables to develop a taste for them before moving to fruits, so they don’t refuse veggie for sweets.
Stage 2) still purées, but with mixed flavors. We recommend still sticking with savory then sweet, rather than mixing the two. Think carrots and squash followed by apples and peaches as dessert.
Stage 3) less purée more texture. At this stage blends of all kinds can be mixed. Spinach and apples. Beets, sweet potatoes, and mango.
*I personally do not mix the sweets and savories, and to date have only found 1 food my child will not eat. He is not picky towards vegetables, or only wanting sweets.
Stage 4) soft solids with introduction to meats.
Still good for babies without teeth to get high protein foods without choking hazards. Think blended chicken with mashed sweet potatoes.
