A Message to Our Member/Owners and Supporters:
Peace Everyone,
We are aware of a social media post that has generated questions and concerns about Detroit People’s Food Co-op. We want our Member/Owners, shoppers, and supporters to hear directly from us.
Detroit People’s Food Co-op remains open and operational. We continue to serve our community every day while working through the opportunities and challenges that come with building a community-owned grocery store.
We understand that some community members have concerns about pricing, product selection, and other aspects of their shopping experience. We welcome that feedback. As a cooperative, we exist to serve our community, and thoughtful feedback helps us improve.
We also want to remind everyone that Detroit People’s Food Co-op is more than a grocery store. It is a community-owned institution built through years of organizing, fundraising, and collective effort. Every purchase, membership, and act of support helps strengthen Black food sovereignty, community ownership, and local economic development in Detroit.
If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions, we encourage you to contact us directly or speak with a member of our team. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement as we work to build the thriving community-owned grocery store Detroit deserves.
Thank you to everyone who shops with us, owns with us, volunteers with us, and believes in this vision.
