Swipe so fresh. Quick farmstand harvest this morning before shifting gears for a big cultivation day. Picture perfect day for controlling weeds with bluebird skies, low summer dew points, and a breeze that should pick up nicely. Burlap keeping the harvest fresh for everyone, even those customers shopping at the end of the day.

Lettuce Mix zoom zoom… harvested Monday evening - occasionally we’ll do an evening harvest session to allow for a dry mix and pack - rather than wait for heavy dew set to dry in the morning. We are definitely in lettuce season; started harvesting romaine and panisse yesterday and will have heaps of lettuce mix in the days ahead as well.

Farming well drained soils is a blessing; after another round of showers over night, even the wettest bed in this field was able to be worked. Quick cultivation on our second parsley planting.

We also snuck in a final cultivation of this lettuce crop which is slated for mid June harvests. Bed was pretty clean, so we were more so cultivating for the next crop… to reduce any weeds that might slow the double cropping turn over. Also, over the years have found a benefit to working the soil after heavy rains, and late cultivation seems to add a buffer to bolting, where lettuce has no reason to send up seed stalks.

Corinto cucumbers in the fieldhouse are setting and sizing nicely.

Caught a rainbow transplanting Friday evening.

Second photo featuring new chicken house for meat birds.

Final photo, checking on transplants after a wind swept rain; just three more beds (out of 52) to fill in this field ‘til it’s planted out for the first time through the order.

Protek Net for the quick brassicas and cabbage, and row cover for the eggplant. Few beds of potatoes ready for cultivation too. All the covers made of through the windy day with flying colors.

Picture Perfect Romaine from our third succession. It received its second and final cultivation this morning. Now we wait, just give it another couple weeks to finish sizing up before harvest.

Green Forest always stellar in the early summer. June is looking great for head lettuce harvests.
