Juneteenth reminds us that freedom delayed is freedom denied—and that freedom must be protected, practiced, and expanded for generations to come.

Today, we honor the strength, faith, and joy of those who came before us. We celebrate the resilience of Black communities, and we recommit ourselves to cultivating a future where every person has the opportunity to thrive.

At Bonton Farms, we believe honoring the past means investing in the future—nurturing people, strengthening community, and planting seeds of lasting change.

May we remember. May we celebrate. May we keep building toward freedom together.

This Friday (Juneteenth), a special screening of SEEDS at Violet Crown Dallas at 7:00pm, will be followed by a conversation with director Brittany Shyne, moderated by Melissa Metoyer of Bonton Farms.

We’re giving away a couple of tickets. Tag a friend you’d like to go with, and the winner will be announced on tomorrow, Friday June 19th, at noon.

SEEDS is a Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning documentary about Black generational farmers in the American South, executive produced by Tessa Thompson and Oscar-shortlisted for Best Documentary Feature.

Bonton Farms is on a mission to disrupt systems of inequity so that health, wholeness, and opportunity are the norm. Melissa Metoyer oversees the Bonton Wellness Center, which houses the Financial Resource Center, Dental Clinic, and Community Health & Wellness Education programs- including a Teaching Kitchen that connects clinical care with practical nutrition education. She also leads The People’s Program, Bonton’s workforce and apprenticeship pipeline, ensuring that every program initiative within the center operates with excellence, accountability, and compassion to promote whole-person wellness and economic stability.
