It was a joyous day on farm! There is nothing cuter on the farm than a newborn piglet. Not just cute, super cute. Currently there are eight, many more expected any day. New born piglets can only be viewed not handled, unless you are Superman.

A few facts about piglets,
1). Sows can easily have 12 or more piglets.
2). Piglet gestation is three months, three weeks, three days.
3). It takes approximately four pounds of hog 🐷 grower to make one pound of pig.
4). Hog grower is currently $13.54 at the local Coop, it takes 24 bags to raise one piglet. ($324.96 total)
5). It cost approximately $350.00 to process a pig.

Enough boring stuff!

Piglets can be viewed on Wednesday from 9:00 am until noon. This is also feeding time on the farm. You can help feed if you like!
Farm members viewing is free. (Information to become a member is pinned to the top of the farm page.)
Non-members; the accounting was laid out above, now you see why we ask for a feed donation.

Viewing does not include holding piglets, not just yet. I’m sure there will be some educational information as well.

With the 2022 New Year approaching prices are changing. At Walnut Hill Farm each year we set our prices for the coming year. You can avoid the price increases by purchasing a 2022 Walnut Hill Farm Membership. With a Walnut Hill Farm Membership, and making a cash payment at any location, you are guaranteed 2021 PRICES. When using a credit or debit card to make a purchase, the fee will be 3.5% greater than the current 2021 prices. Without a farm membership purchases are made at full retail price.

• Exclusive access to sales of: ¼, ½ or whole beef; ½ or whole pork, Limits will apply.

• Priority access to public farm events.
• Special discounts for farm tours and events.

• Access to farm petting area during store hours or by appointment.
• Discounts of 3.5% off when paying with Credit or Debit Card or 8% off with cash payment (excludes bulk purchases, and special sales)
• Exclusive access to select biologically limited cuts i.e. flank steak (2 per cow).
• COVID Shutdown exclusive shopping privileges.
• Priority status on preorders (limits may apply) as the need for preorders is determined by Walnut Hill Farm.
Annual cost $100.00 effective dates: January 1, through December 31, 2022

This program also helps us your local farmer. We are desperately trying to build two fences to protect a farm waterway. Fencing is not cheap. By helping to build fence, we pass discounts to you. It is better than bank loan fees.

Please consider a membership, we are local. And just in case you were wondering we offer: grass fed beef, Tamworth Heritage Pork, Free Range Freedom Ranger chickens, lamb, eggs & cheese. New in 2022; goat meat, goat milk, Guernsey milk, and Jersey milk. And with lots of luck, Devonshire cream.

By now you know the Dale City Farmers Market is not open. The market is operated by Prince William County, it is not operated by the farmers. The farmers plan to return once the market is open. Until then you will have to contact each farmer individually.

Dalecitymarket.com has a list of vendors you can contact. Some deliver some do not. Due to overwhelming demand product selection may vary. Ironically we are no longer just the flower guy, or the popcorn guy, etc. we have names, and you will have to know the Farmers name to find them.

Some farmers are 30 minutes away, others are two hours away.

As we know more, we will let you know more.

Someone made a great suggestion and I am going to use it. You can earn a free tour admission with each $50.00 purchase in our farm store. See the details below.

For each $50.00 spent in the farm store one admission ticket is earned. We are in the farming business and we sell beef, pork, chicken, lamb, cheese and eggs. It is important to introduce you to the products we produce.

By shopping first you earn your free tour ticket(S), we can store your purchase in our freezers while you Tour, or bring a cooler and store your purchase in your cooler. One of the items has to be a jam, jelly, salsa, apple sauce, or relish.

All items qualify, that includes pumpkins, apples, mums, straw, corn stalks and all of our meats and eggs. We also have specials listed on our price list.

I never claimed to major in business or marketing, but this amounts to a 16% discount on your meat purchases. After all Walnut Hill Farm is in the meat business. For some this is no incentive at all, for others maybe, time will tell.

The first hayride Saturday will be 12:30, Sunday 10:30, there is a corn maze to navigate, animals to feed, shopping to consider and you can walk the farm.
