One of my favorite places to be — and this weekend was a really good reminder of why.

I get to work at Van Hook Cheese & Grocery sometimes, and it never gets old. Everything behind that counter is chosen on purpose. No throwaways, no generic picks — just really thoughtful, really good cheese, cured meat and other artisanal treats from people who genuinely love this stuff.

I had a great day behind the case. And then I looked up and saw standing there — Mary Connolly, cheese writer, food columnist, FCI grad, fellow cheese obsessive — someone I've followed and admired online for years. First time meeting in person. Of course it happened at Van Hook.

That felt like a sign. This shop attracts the right people.

Have been meaning to try Withersbrook Blue for far too long! While Bayley still is still my numero uno choice, this is like a fun tropical version. And nothing better with blue cheese than some local drizzle 🤤

Even though the country I live in is no longer the land of the free, even though my social media feed is filled with crazy topics instead of my smiling friends, even though I spend my days with a sweet and fiery toddler… cheese will always be nourishment, comfort and bliss ❤️🧀

So take a moment out of your day today and bite into something that gives you peace. For me today, it’s Mountaineer by - notes of beef broth, saltines, hay - it’s like Comte’s stronger cousin
