Welcome friends! What a lovely Saturday we have planned filled with Ben Redwine’s NSTMS Jazz Jam in the gazebo making great melodies. So grab your coffee or tea from the pavilion and let’s make groceries!

You can also find blueberries at Johndale’s and James (in between the mushrooms and peppers). There will be lots of blueberries and no matter how hard you try, there are always some left. I don’t even bother to wait for leftovers. I just take out a tray, line with parchment paper, and place those berries on the tray and freeze. You’ll have them all summer long for making blueberry muffins or pancakes, smoothies, and just plain snacking. And don’t forget the wonderful blueberry jams from Althee — especially terrific for the iconic PB&J or even making a blueberry vinaigrette. Peaches, plums and tomatoes can still be found sweetening up Barbara’s table.

Faust Farms is back this week but not with blueberries. They are planning to bring lovely heirloom and Creole tomatoes, plus peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, jalapeños, and their fabulous spring mix of lettuces. Spring really is the best time of year. Chanterelles are still available on Greg’s table and tomatoes as well. Vince’s table is just packed full of peppers — poblano, jalapeño, and green bell peppers. There were cherry tomatoes, Roma tomatoes, and Creole tomatoes on his table as well as fennel and fresh fantastically fragrant basil. And there may be some okra starting to show up. Norma Jean has basil too, but hers comes already made into pesto. I love it!!

James’ table has been overloaded with veggies in the last few weeks. You’ll find long-beans, potatoes, light purple bell peppers and maybe even some fresh garlic. Don’t worry, you can still get the most outstanding mushrooms from James. So many outstanding flavors can be found all through the market. Most notably, you’ll find flavor treasures on B&B’s table — oh! the combinations you’ll find. Credo Farms is another place to find great seasonings and sometimes you will find fresh herbs as well. Remember that Jennifer has those lovely compound butters to liven things up.

It doesn’t take much either —a sprinkle of Kelp Seasoning (Credo) on sliced tomatoes, a swipe of Roasted Garlic Butter (Bear Creek Road) on some of Liz’s corn on the cob, B&B’s Ranch Seasoning on your chicken (Credo), Bee Sweet’s Lemon Honey on your toast, or Stacy’s Giardiniera pickles on your mixed salad greens (Faust Farms). Yep! Our market is packed full of goodness. Johnny’s sweet potato, black bean, and beet burgers are absolutely stupendous as is the incredible Breakfast Sandwich. I do not know how he does it, but Johnny can take carrots, sprouts, avocado, and spinach and create this fabulous veggie sandwich!

Of course veggies and fruits are not the only goodness at the market. You can stroll through and find prepared foods of all kinds and all are quite tasty. Joe offers a lovely shredded cabbage salad with chicken that is totally amazing. I’ve used it in my broth for a delightful, enriching soup and all I had to do was chop the salad and add to the broth. There’s more…namely his incredible creamy Shrimp and Cream Cheese rolls or his traditional egg rolls. Another item that is quickly requested is his Chicken Curry — rich and spicy and filled with carrots and potatoes and chicken in a luscious curry sauce. I hope you stop by every time you pass by Abeer’s. You’ll find the taste of the Mediterranean on her tables and she is preparing a new dish called Marina, toasted pita bread filled with ground meat, veggies, and spices, and pressed on a Panini press.

You may find Pierogies on Norma’s table or sausage and raw kraut sandwich or delightful, and fairly new, Lentil Shepherd’s Pie or Yummy Carrot Bread or fabulous Greek Salad and it will all be wonderful. Over at Sonja’s, tacos are the bomb! (do they still say that?) No matter, she has perfected the grilled Asada beef and it is amazing in her tacos outside of whatever toppings you choose. Her refried beans make an exceptional topping. Meme has a flair for taking ordinary pancake batter and simple veggies like carrots, onions, and zucchini and turning them into a remarkable dish that has wowed market goers for years.

We invite you, dear friends, to come discover all our market has to offer. Yeah, you will have to wait for Saturday, but it’ll be here before ya know it. We’ll see you there!

Lots of love,

Lauren Murphy will be entertaining us this Saturday from the gazebo, friends. So grab your coffee or tea from the pavilion and enjoy the music while you shop. Many thanks to Coffee Rani for providing the coffee and tea to our market.

It seemed like almost everyone is boasting something new. Vincent & Mauricio made an amazing Celery Soup with celery, onion, herbs and a splash of potatoes for creaminess. It will only be available for this coming weekend since the celery comes directly from their garden. The blueberries are beginning to appear all throughout the market on Johndale’s, and James’ tables and White Oak should be at the market on Saturday. You will find bouquets of smiling sunflower at the market this weekend.

I know he had a bit of a snafu with his refrigeration last week but we are hoping all is good and Patrick will be back in full swing this coming Saturday. The things he does with croissants is exceptional; he’s making danish, too, such as Peach Cobbler danish and Lemon Coconut danish. He also made Roasted Red Pepper, Feta, and Dill croissants plus the delightful twisted croissants. Oh my! Yes we have table after table of fabulous. Even Bee Sweet’s Melissa had a new creamed honey— with lemon!

I know we had a bit of rain at the beginning of last Saturday’s market but that didn’t stop our vendors and the veggies were delighted. Vince has a full table with red and green cabbage, fennel, Romanesca, tomatoes (Romas, cherry and Creole), bell peppers, jalapeños, poblano peppers, eggplant and lots of squash. And as a wonderful surprise, Liz at Jubilee has CORN. That's right. Fresh off the stalk w and waiting for some butter.

Jeff and Suzanne have gorgeous cucumbers and white patty pan squash. You can use those cucumbers for more than salads. Try adding the slices to your water for a refreshing drink. I saw strawberries still on Johndale’s table and we could possibly see them for one more week but don’t worry, as I said before, the blueberries are marching in. Johndale will have more veggies this coming week with cucumbers joining the mix and more green beans, yellow squash and zucchini.

Barbara’s tomatoes are beautiful and she had TWO types of plums on the table with the peaches! Joining those tasty fruit, are some lovely cakes baked by Sandra (Alton’s wife). She baked red velvet cake, a luscious lemon cake, and carrot cake! Creamy cream cheese icing tops each beautiful cake. James has expanded his repertoire of veggies this week, adding lovely tomatoes, more banana pepper and colorful long beans and light purple bell peppers and plenty of blueberries. He said he should still have red and yellow potatoes for a few more weeks. Mushrooms from James are always good to have around. You can add them to salads or stews or sauté them.

You’ll definitely need something to sauté those mushrooms or any of the veggies on the tables. Jennifer has you covered with her compound butter flowers. YES! And the flavors she offers — Roasted Garlic, Black Pepper Parm, and Fresh Herbs will add elegance to your dishes. Yes, they are in the shape of a flower. They are so cute you’ll just have to bite the bullet and slice off a petal. Oh, there’s more goodness too — burger buns, hot dog buns, bagels, and a new focaccia sandwich with pesto, prosciutto, and Mozzarella. Won’t need any compound butter for that! Don’t worry. She still has this incredible pizzas and the Bacon Pancake Fold up!

See what I mean? Something new and wonderful everywhere. It is incredibly difficult to just “run in” for a few things even with the raindrops. Come join us and see what a fabulous place your Covington Farmers Market is rain or shine. It would be a crime to sleep in and miss it all. We’ll see ya there!

Lots of love,

The Spring Chickens will be sending out delightful tunes from the gazebo this Saturday to put a snap in your step as you shop. So grab your coffee from the pavilion and let’s make groceries!

Oh the veggies that were on the tables this past Saturday! Vince’s table was groaning with green cabbage and red cabbage along with poblano peppers and eggplant, yellow and green zucchini. You can even find white, yellow, and green patty pan squash, carrots and more. I love this time of year. What will he have next week?

James boasted those lovely potatoes again, purple bell peppers and banana peppers, and several colors of small round cue ball squash and GARLIC! I love fresh garlic and these had the long leaves still attached. Why does that matter? Because I can chop up that fabulous garlic part for my meals and put those leftover tops in the freezer to add to my bone broth, that’s why. Think of the flavor and nutrition that imparts! There were blackberries on his table too and the possibility of blueberries in the next week or so.

Jeff and Suzanne (Birds of Paradise) have been with us for a few months now and this week, along with a eggs, they offered cucumbers and some yellow squash and lots of gorgeous white patty pans. Greg was there with lots of Chanterelle mushrooms and Creole tomatoes but there weren’t many of them so make sure you get there early. He also had his amazing Honey Turmeric Ginger Bomb — a bomb to fight inflammation.

String beans popped up on Johndale’s table, and blackberries and the first of the blueberries, and they still have plenty of strawberries! Now for the best part — red onions!! I love onions. I think they go into most savory dishes that I make. Gee…onions and garlic. I must be in heaven. The only thing better would be goodies.

It’s not too late to do some planting of your own. Alton has a forest of blueberry plants available plus thyme and oregano, tomatoes and cucumber starts and gorgeous hanging baskets of flowers. Ms. Betty is famous for her stag horn fern and also that lovely maidenhair fern. she has a large assortment of plants that are perfect for your patio or windowsill. Dennis is not to be forgotten simply because he is in the corner. He needs space for larger plants such as Night Blooming Jasmine and Confederate Rose bushes and fig trees.

There’s just so many more things to enjoy and discover at our Covington Farmers Market and just as many ways to savor them. Hope to see you there!

Lots of love,

The Lucky Dogs. In the gazebo. This Saturday, friends! Don’t miss out! Come on out, enjoy the music, grab your coffee from the pavilion, and and get to shoppin’. We would also like to invite you to join us at the Landing this Friday, May 15th for a fabulous concert with musicians: James Singleton, Aurora Nealand, Ian Patillo, and Dave Easley! Bring your lawn chairs and picnic dinner and enjoy the music with us!

What a gully washer we had last week! It was definitely an umbrella and galoshes day but several of our vendors showed up and for that I am truly thankful. I know it’s not an easy thing to shop with an umbrella but sometimes the bad weather doesn’t show up on weather channels until Friday and by that time our prepared foods vendors have already begun cooking and preparing. Produce doesn’t always wait on the plant for another week. Our vendors really really appreciate your show of support on these days.

Barbara drove from Alabama with the first pickings from the peach orchard and they were delightfully sweet. Mr. Wonderful and I like to enjoy some with dinner. She had plenty of tomatoes as well. Vincent & Mauricio are always faithful to come out, which is great because I really don’t want to miss out on my biscotti. They have many other fabulous goodies, too, such as fig cookies, wedding cookies, other cookies (chocolate chip, peanut butter, lemon, etc) plus their lovely pita and Brazilian and corn breads.

I need my milk and cream and butter for the week. The cows have to be milked so I know I can count on Mauthe’s being there. Greg showed up, too, with lots of Chanterelles (which have been loving the rain) and Creole tomatoes—lusciously red and delicious. James from Family Fungi set up his table with extracts and teas. Along with an impressive selection of mushroom & herb extracts and teas, he is a valuable source of information.

Vince boasted white patty pan squash, yellow squash, zucchini, carrots, beets, and more last week and this week he added red cabbage! I’ve heard that sliced cabbage comes out beautifully when cooked in an air fryer, and since I have a new one, well, I just have to try it. Apparently, there’s not a lot to it. Just season and hit the air fry button and patiently wait for the results. I was hoping that James had potatoes this week and he did not disappoint. Red and white potatoes joined the mushrooms and those adorable Cue Ball squash plus blackberries and baby yellow squash and sugar snap peas peas.

Our fabulous bakers were there and the bread was plentiful. Happy Flour’s croissants are huge, flaky, and amazing. They are perfect for pulling apart and eating (my favorite), or slicing and spreading Mauthe’s butter on each side, or adding some of Vincent & Mauricio’s tuna salad on those slices (Mr. Wonderful’s favorite). Patrick has been adding some lovely cookies to the table to accompany his tasty sourdoughs. Bear Creek Road’s Mother’s Day cookies were gorgeous and just as yummy as they looked. She had all the regulars as well with bagels and Italian bread, tasty breakfast sandwiches, and sourdough heading the lineup. Plus there were more of her fabulous sourdough biscuits.

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate! What a way to mom’s heart! Gavin was there with both the solid chocolate bars and hot cacao drink and their newest item — Organ-ism, a nutritious blend of organ meats, freeze dried and put into capsules for those who just can’t bring themselves to eat the fresh product. And we also had the boudin champ C**t from Stirling Smith Farms with their assortment of outstanding boudin featuring Wagyu beef, pickled pork, turducken or Golumpki, a fantastic blend of Italian sausage, pork, and chicken. And, of course, Norma was there with that amazing carrot bread and chocolatey brownies, breakfast sandwiches and quiche. She had prepared an absolutely outstanding crustless quiche with tomatoes, basil, and Feta cheese. It was very, very delicious.

As you can see, there is a lot of goodness to be found at our Covington Farmers Market even in a deluge. So I hope I’ve inspired you to come out and see us no matter what the weather. Hope to see you there!

Lots of love,

You are in for a special treat on Saturday morning when Amadee Frederick takes the stage in the gazebo, sending out his magical music style into the market for all to enjoy. Get a hot or cold coffee or tea from the pavilion and make your way around the market.

Barbara Cleckler will be joining us on Saturday with PEACHES! That’s right peaches have recovered from the late season frost. It will be wonderful to have them to go along with those luscious tomatoes she has. In addition to the strawberries still available on Johndale’s table, BLUEBERRIES are also beginning to make an appearance. Oh! how fabulous!

James had a unique squash this past Saturday — Cue Ball Squash — cute shape and they cook just like other squashes. Last year at this time, he harvested some lovely red potatoes on his table and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they will make an appearance this year. White patti pan squash joined yellow squash and zucchini and more on Vince’s table last weekend. I find this such a versatile squash because you can make a delightful dessert (Squash Pudding) or wonderful stuffed squash with so many choices of stuffing from the market. It can be seeded, sliced, then grilled and topped with Berry Hill Feta (or any of Jessee’s lovely cheeses) or chopped into your salad.

There are many places to find eggs at the market and that’s a good thing to know because eggs always go quickly. Several vendors have a few dozen, but Danny, next to Jubilee Farms, has a large supply, as does Hope at Credo Farms and the boys at Six Day Acres (just follow the giant chicken)! Eggs are stupendous. They are that filling, nutritious evening meal when you don’t have energy to fix something else.

You can make a delicious casserole and, by adding different ingredients, you can have a special meal. To a simple scrambled egg base, you can add boudin from Stirling Smith Farm. There are several flavors from which to choose — Turducken, Pickled Pork, Wagyu Beef, or Golumki. Meat and/or veggie leftovers from yesterday’s meal, dried herbs from Norma, can be added. James’ mushrooms or Cue Ball squash would be fantastic, or Barbara’s tomatoes, plus a bit of Mauthe’s cream, and Berry Hill cheese and a splash of Ree-Lee’s hot sauce. Don’t forget bread from our amazing bakers to go with that simple meal.

We also have outstanding meat/seafood vendors. Mr. Two offers shrimp in just the right size for your creation. Jubilee Farms’ tremendous selection of beef, pork, and lamb cuts means that you have great pasture raised meat to serve your family. Whether you are fixing hamburgers or steaks, Liz and Evie have the right cut for you. The chicken available at Credo Farms is also pasture raised and you can get that chicken in many ways — whole chicken, thighs, legs, breasts, wings — along with chicken paws, backs and necks so you can prepare your own bone broth.

Come join us, friends, as we enjoy Amadee’s music, chit chat with other market goers, delight in new finds as you take the time to shop around your Covington Farmers Market. We do hope to see you there!

Lots of love,
