Come say hi and see the County Poor House (1890's) redesigned. Located at 3520 Gainesburo Grade Cookeville, TN Wayne Moss has always had farming in his blood. Even as a child, he knew he wanted to farm. After high school, Wayne enrolled at Tennessee Tech in Plant and Soil Science and paid his way through crop farming, hogs, cattle, and tobacco. After graduating, Wayne married a N.J. girl (Charlene)

who also graduated in animal science from TTU. After years of a major hog operation and tobacco, big-time farming seemed to become a thing of the past. Hogs got cheap and tobacco was bought out. This, however, would not deter Wayne from farming. Though Wayne and I were blessed with a great job as rural carriers for the U.S. Postal Service and 3 great children, Wayne was determined to get into a new kind of farming. Henceforth came Little Creek Produce, named after our farm.Wayne could see a need for locally grown produce. He was determined to grow vegetables that were as organically grown as possible and were affordable for the people in and around Cookeville. Plus it had to be attractive and tasty. My husband researches, reads, and attends every kind of meeting available to achieve that goal. After a decade or so of working 60 to 70 hrs./wk. Wayne and I are proud of what we have accomplished. We still have lots to do and are excited about providing the best and healthiest produce available. If you haven't met us , please come out and do so. Wayne will be happy to help you with any gardening question or problems you might have.. A friendly face will be here to greet you!

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been introducing the different tulip varieties growing here on the farm. So far, we’ve shared our daffodils, Hakuun tulips, Pink Impression, and the Barn Mix. This week, we’re highlighting one of the most striking and regal varieties in the field, the Imperial tulip.

The Imperial tulip is known for its bold presence and classic form. With its tall, sturdy stems and large, cup-shaped blooms, it adds height and definition to the spring garden, catching the light in a way that feels both elegant and strong.

Historically, Imperial-style tulips trace their influence back to formal European gardens, where height, color, and symmetry were carefully considered. These varieties were often planted to create dramatic sweeps of color and clean visual lines, offering a sense of order and refinement to early spring landscapes.

What makes the Imperial tulip special is its balance of simplicity and grandeur. Each bloom opens wide in the sunlight, revealing rich color and smooth petals that feel almost sculpted. It has a quiet, steady beauty that feels both classic and enduring.

The Imperial reminds us that sometimes a single, well-formed bloom can make just as much of an impact as an entire mix. It’s bold, classic, and unmistakably spring.

Come see the Imperial tulips standing tall here on the farm in just a few weeks!

🌷 What Gives Flowers Their Color?

Have you ever wondered what makes one flower blush pink while another bursts into golden yellow?

The secret lies in nature’s chemistry and a touch of sunlight. ☀️

Each flower’s color comes from a mix of natural pigments:

Anthocyanins give flowers their reds, purples, and blues.

Carotenoids bring out the sunny yellows and oranges in flowers like marigolds and sunflowers.

Chlorophyll, the same pigment that makes leaves green, sometimes shines through in stems or foliage.

And in rare cases, betalains (found in some cacti and beets) add deep reds and purples.

But it’s not just chemistry. Light, soil pH, and even temperature can shift a flower’s shade. For example, hydrangeas can change from pink to blue depending on how acidic your soil is. 🌿

Next time you walk through the farm and see a field bursting with color, remember, it’s a symphony of sunlight, soil, and science working in harmony.

Nature really is the best artist.

What a fun fact about tulips! I know exactly how they feel

Fun fact: tulip stems tend to droop in cold weather and straighten up as temperatures rise...just like us! 😂
