Looks amazing, guys! And thanks for the shoutout! If you didn’t know, Putnam Micro-Farm & Co. LLC is based out of our very own Heritage Lake! They have a little micro-farm right in their house, and have been trading with me delicious micro greens for fresh baked goods the last couple weeks! I’m so happy to have found a micro green grower so near. The nutritional benefits these tiny little plants is out of this world, not to mention they’re absolutely delicious on almost anything. Indiana basically looked at generations of grandmas, church bake sales, county fair legends, pie tables, roadside sweet corn stands, and people selling “just a few jars” of jam out of the kitchen and finally said:
“You know what? Let the Hoosiers cook.” 🍪🥧🌽💀
The Homemade Food Act becoming law feels like the most Indiana thing ever because this state has been running on homemade food long before anybody put paperwork near it. 😭
Somewhere in Indiana right now there’s: • a grandma making noodles from scratch
• somebody baking pies that could stop traffic on US-31
• a church basement selling cookies by the dozen
• a farmer’s market table full of apple butter
• and one guy confidently explaining that his BBQ sauce is “not for everybody” 💀
This law basically confirmed what Hoosiers already knew:
The best food in Indiana does NOT always come from a restaurant.
Sometimes it comes from: • a handwritten recipe card
• a cast iron skillet
• a church fundraiser
• a county fair table
• a backyard smoker
• or somebody’s aunt who refuses to measure anything but somehow never misses 😭
Now those homemade traditions can turn into real small businesses: • pies
• jams
• cookies
• breads
• noodles
• popcorn
• pickles
• sauces
• sweet corn treats
• and every secret family recipe that’s been winning “just bring that again” compliments for 40 years. 🌽🍞🥧
And honestly?
Indiana was built for this.
Because in Hoosier country, homemade food isn’t just food.
It’s family. It’s neighbors. It’s church dinners. It’s county fairs. It’s farmers markets. It’s somebody handing you a plate and saying:
“Go ahead, take some home too.” 😭❤️
