There are so many things people love about Findlay Market. The food. The history. The merchants. The familiar faces.
And for the last 22 years, one of those things has been Ebb Cooper.
Ebb has officially retired after more than two decades as a member of our Maintenance Team. We couldn't be happier for him, but Findlay Market already feels a little different without him.
If you've spent any time at the Market, chances are you know Ebb. And chances are, the first thing you think of is his big smile. His retirement didn't go unnoticed. During his very first week away, our Market Center was bombarded with shoppers and merchants asking where he was. That's the kind of impact he's had on this place.
Ebb's story is woven into some of Cincinnati's most beloved institutions. He worked at both the Reds and Bengals stadiums before joining Findlay Market. For the last 22 years, the Market has been his second home.
And he treated it that way. Ebb took tremendous pride in caring for the Market, but it was the relationships he built that made him so special. He had a way of making a bad day better and a good day great. He checked in on people and listened to how they were doing. He loved to joke around, make people laugh and find the fun in just about anything. His positive attitude was contagious.
Ebb became much more than a member of our team. He became a friend. The kind of friend merchants invited to backyard BBQs and shoppers invited to their weddings. That level of love, trust and respect doesn't happen by accident. Ebb earned every bit of it.
22 years of Ebb has left quite an impression on Findlay Market. He's been joking about retiring for at least the last decade, and we've been conveniently ignoring him because we just weren't ready to let him go. We'll certainly miss seeing that big smile every day, but we couldn't be more excited for him.
Ebb, we cannot overstate what you've meant to our team, our merchants, our shoppers and this place we all love so much. No one is more deserving of a wonderful retirement. Thank you for taking such good care of our Market and, most importantly, for taking such good care of the people in it. Enjoy every minute of retirement. You've certainly earned it.
