Well, the last couple of months have been a whirlwind around here! 🤪

And last week was one for the books! We were even made aware of a few Facebook posts wondering where in the world we had disappeared to! 🫣😂

Between four kids in sports, planning and pulling off our son’s wedding, and keeping a family-operated business running, we’ve been stretched a little thin!

To make things even more interesting, our son married one of our employees, and another member of her family works for us too. So the wedding involved quite a few of us from the butcher shop! 😂

We wouldn’t trade these family moments for anything, but we also recognize that we have customers who count on us, and we don’t take that responsibility lightly.

With that being said, we’re back to our regular business hours! Our phone is working again, and we’re getting back into our normal routine.

A HUGE shout-out to the employees who held down the fort while much of our family was busy with wedding preparations. You took on extra responsibilities and kept things running. We couldn’t have done it without you! We love you guys! ❤️

And to our customers, thank you for your patience and continued support of our little family business!

Well, we THOUGHT she was okay to do her rounds this week, but all our thinking has been rudely shut down and reality hit with a jerk and a hiss.

Calamity Jane is mournfully parked for another week. 😩

After weeks of prescription drugs, her aches and pains have finally declared they’re tired of having their symptoms treated. She wants REAL results.

And unfortunately, she got them.

The good doctor has diagnosed her with a Turbo condition, so she is now undergoing surgery…again. 🤦‍♀️

She wishes she could drink some cure-all potion and magically heal so she could purr down the road serving her people. But one painful, expensive, slow diagnosis at a time, she’s becoming a brand-new woman on the inside while keeping her good old frame. 😂

She sincerely apologizes for not being able to fulfill her obligations this week.

Fingers crossed for next week. 🤞 Stay tuned…

Well, Calamity Jane loves football, and three of her favorite dudes will be playing JV tonight at Wheatland High School! 🏈❤️

So she’s packing up a little early and heading out to cheer them on!

Years ago, on the banks of a North Carolina shore, Alex was looking for a place to cast his line.

An elderly Black man had stopped at the same spot to cast his.

Seeing him there, Alex immediately apologized and started to move along.

The man stopped him.

“Don’t go,” he smiled. “There’s plenty of fish here for both of us. God provides, and you can’t catch my fish.”

What a simple picture of faith.

Alex never forgot those words, and now they are making an impact on our family and business.

When we truly believe God provides, we don’t have to clutch so tightly to what we think is ours. Someone else’s opportunities and successes don’t threaten ours or take away what God has for us.

There’s plenty of room to cast our lines beside each other.

And you can’t catch my fish. ❤️

Calamity Jane has been having a moment lately. Her innermost insecurities have been trying to dampen her spirit.

As she shakes and shudders along to her destination and settles into her spot, she waits for her people to come see her, her heart full of positive energy and optimism for the day ahead.

And then she notices them.

The rubberneckers.

They buzz by. Slow down. Heads turning. Sometimes they even pause beside her, mouths moving as they read the words on her side…

“Chug Springs Butchery.”

Her old heart skips a beat.
Finally. They’ve noticed her. They’re curious.

They’re going to stop and see her for who she really is.

And then… they drive off.

That’s when the doubts start creeping into an old girl’s mind.

“Am I ugly?”
“Do I have bugs in my teeth?”
“Do I not look welcoming enough?”
“Did they not realize there’s an ACTUAL MEAT STORE IN HERE?!”

She doesn’t know what to do with these people.

She’s tried sitting there, fluttering her eyelashes and looking pretty. She’s tried being bright and obvious. I mean, she’s literally red and black with BUTCHERY and MEAT WAGON written across her body.

What more do they want from her?!

She’s beginning to think subtlety isn’t working. Her mischievous side is kicking in as she thinks she needs a cow horn.

Not a cute little beep beep either.

A full-blown, shake-the-parking-lot, make-you-drop-your-coffee:

MOOOOOOOOOOO.

You know, something that says,

“YES. YOU. THE ONE RUBBERNECKING. PULL OVER. I HAVE MEAT.” 😂

We’re still trying to talk her out of it.
