Well folks, she’s at it again.

For the last couple of weeks, she’s been snorting, puffing, and expressing her disgust.

Her message has been clear:

“Nope! I’m not driving fast. And if you try to push me, I’m going to shake and shudder.”

So the driver has been patiently working with her, trying to keep her calm enough to make her weekly rounds while waiting for these crazy emissions regulations to go away.

But today, when he tried to push her up the steep hill at Goshen Hole, she’d had enough.

She died.

You see, she’s been mad this whole time that she hasn’t been allowed to spill her emissions into the big, wide-open atmosphere. But thanks to new laws taking effect, she was hopeful she’d soon be breathing freely again.

Apparently she decided she couldn’t wait that long.

We are sorry, Cheyenne, but we will be missing you this week while we try to convince this old girl that cooperation is still an option.

Guernsey we still hope to be there Friday afternoon. Stay tuned for an update.

When we first opened Chug Springs Butchery in 2021, we discussed what we wanted our business to represent.
Because people are more valuable than money or products, we wanted to be known as:

“The Little Shop with a BIG Heart.”

That’s why this statement became part of our logo.

As we roll around in our bus meeting real people with real concerns, we hope we’re living up to that statement.

One concern we hear often is how hard people are working to put good food on the table for their families. They genuinely care about what they are serving, but with food prices where they are, it isn’t always easy.

Recently, a customer stopped by looking for good quality meat. As we visited, she shared that she rarely buys ground beef anymore because it had become too expensive. She wistfully told us how much she misses it.

When we suggested stretching ground beef by mixing it with ground pork, her face lit up. It may not be exactly the same as pure ground beef, but it can help families enjoy beef more often without relying entirely on pork or chicken.

Moments like that remind us that many people are doing their best to make every dollar count.

When people ask what’s on sale, we usually smile and say, “Everything, every day,” because our goal is to keep our everyday prices low instead of marking things up just to mark them down later.

We may not be able to do much about the economy at large, but we’d like to think we’re making a difference in our little corner of the world by offering quality meat at affordable everyday prices.

As we travel around, we hope you’ll not only stop by for the meat, but also follow along for the stories. The bus and the shop always seem to find themselves in one adventure or another.

Romance at the tiny Butcher Shop in Chugwater!

It was in the summer of 2023, that a beautiful young girl stopped by the shop to pick up meat for her parents.

On a whim, Alex asked if she’d like a job.

A couple weeks later she came for her first day, and the two young boys -normally rambunctious and nearly impossible to keep focused on their work- suddenly forgot how to act altogether.

They were completely tongue tied.

Red-faced and stumbling over their words, they tried to explain the work while she stood there looking politely confused and a little unsure of what was happening.

For nearly a month, the three of them worked mostly in silence.

Chuckling we joked that we had never gotten that much work out of those boys before.

But for one boy in particular… he was completely starstruck.

He kept stealing glances in her direction while she quietly kept to herself, focused on the job in front of her.

Then one day they discovered a shared passion: Hunting.

Hunting conversations turned into hunting trips, and hunting trips slowly turned into deeper conversations about life, faith, work, and the future.

Somewhere along the way, friendship quietly began to take root. A friendship that was being built through common interests, shared values, and the growing up that happens in those late teenage and early adult years.

Then last fall they left in opposite directions, one headed north and the other south.
The young lady had been offered her dream job working as a ranch hand, while the young man accepted an opportunity to learn a trade that had always fascinated him.

But distance has a way of revealing what really matters because no matter how far apart they went, the friendship and affection they had built kept drawing them back toward one another.

Eventually they realized they didn’t want this to simply remain a friendship. They wanted to build a life together.

We are incredibly excited to be welcoming into our family a young woman we had already come to love long before we ever imagined she would one day become part of it.

Congratulations to Bradlyn & Miranda!!❤️

As we’ve been busy launching the Meat Wagon into the wild, our butcher shop has been working hard behind the scenes keeping everything stocked and running.

After a couple “hissy fits” from the proper lack of attention at the shop, we realized it’s time to slow down for a few days and give both the shop and the bus the maintenance they need. 😅

We care deeply about serving our customers well and keeping things running smoothly.

So next week we will be taking time to clean, repair, organize, and work on the things that help us to continue bringing you quality meat and dependable service.

🚫 CLOSED JUNE 1–7 🚫

Thank you all for the support you’ve shown our little Butcher Shop and lovable new/old Meat Wagon.

We appreciate y’all and will be back June 8 on our usual route with fresh stock and hopefully a little less chaos behind the scenes. 😉
