The strawberries put up a good fight, but our customers were faster. Thanks to all of you, every ripe berry ready for picking today has officially found a new home!

We are now picked out for Thursday and our Pick Your Own fields are closed for the day.

The good news? Strawberry season is still going strong at our Market!

A Summer Day at the Market

Sometimes the best part of a trip to Patterson Fruit Farm isn’t what’s on your shopping list.

It’s watching the kids race to the playground while you sip a cold brew coffee.

It’s running into a friend you haven’t seen in months.

It’s grabbing fresh strawberries, a pie, and a dozen donuts and leaving with a few extra memories you didn’t know you were going to make.

It’s picking up what you need for dinner, visiting the animals, and spending a little time outdoors on a beautiful summer day.

We know everyone loves the slides at Family Fun Fest, but we still have a few months to wait before the 2026 season rolls around. The good news? The fun doesn’t have to wait!

Our Market playground is open and ready for little adventurers to climb, slide, explore, and burn off some energy while the grown-ups enjoy a relaxing visit to the market.

🍓 STRAWBERRY UPDATE 🍓
After 55 strawberry seasons, one thing we know for certain: every season is different.
Weather keeps us guessing, and strawberries ripen on their own schedule, not ours. Some days the berries seem to turn red overnight, and other days they take their sweet time. That’s farming!

The good news? We PLAN to reopen our Pick-Your-Own Strawberry Fields on Thursday, June 11th beginning at 8:00 AM.

⏰ Picking hours will be 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM, unless we pick out sooner.

As always, we encourage everyone to come early. If you’ve been following along this season, you know our berry fields have been filling up quickly thanks to all of you!

🍓 We PLAN on opening our Pick Your Own Strawberry fields again on Monday, June 8, beginning at 8am! 🍓

If you’ve been following along this season, you know we’ve been picking out very early. Why?

Well, it’s a combination of Mother Nature and all of you!

Not every strawberry ripens at once, so each day only a portion of the berries are ready to be picked. Add in beautiful weather and hundreds of families eager to make strawberry memories, and those ripe berries disappear quickly!

While it’s never fun to turn folks away, we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support. Seeing generations of families, friends gathering in the fields, and children experiencing strawberry picking for the first time is what makes this season so special.

Strawberry Science at Patterson Fruit Farm! 🍓
These two photos were taken just 16 hours apart. The first photo was snapped at 3:00 PM and the second at 7:00 AM the next morning. Amazing what a little time, sunshine, and warm weather can do!
Many people ask why some days the berries seem to ripen overnight and other times they hardly change at all. The answer is all about the weather.
☀️ Sunshine helps strawberry plants produce the sugars that make berries sweet.
🌡️ Warm daytime temperatures speed up ripening and help berries develop their bright red color.
🌙 Cool nights and cooler daytime temperatures can slow the ripening process significantly. That’s why a few warm sunny days in a row can suddenly turn fields full of green and white berries into fields ready for picking.
🍓 Strawberries do not continue to ripen much after they are picked, which is why we wait until they are beautifully red before harvesting.
🍓 Here’s a fun fact: The average strawberry has about 200 seeds on the outside! It’s actually the only fruit that wears its seeds on the outside.
🍓 Another fun fact: A strawberry flower takes about 30 days to become a ripe berry, but the final color change from pink to red can happen surprisingly fast during warm weather.
One thing farming teaches us is that Mother Nature is always in charge. Weather affects everything we do, from when strawberries bloom to how quickly they ripen to when we can open the fields for picking. A few cloudy, cool days can slow things down, while a stretch of sunshine can speed things right up. It certainly keeps farmers on their toes!
Right now, we’re watching nature work its magic. Every sunny afternoon is helping the berries sweeten up, color up, and get one step closer to being ready for your cereal, shortcake, freezer jam, and fresh-picked snacking.
It’s one of our favorite parts of the season, seeing an entire field transform day by day, and sometimes hour by hour! 🍓
