🙌 THIS. This is EXACTLY why we host the Friday Farmers Market.

It's more than offering fresh food. It's about connecting the dots.

People. Health. Nutrition. Compassion. Community.

That's why we do it.

We are located in a medically vulnerable area across from the new Veterans Health Administration (VHA) - U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, behind the Jennings Cancer Center, Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, and the Chesapeake Health Department.

People in need of more than just a loaf of sourdough or a dozen farm fresh eggs. People in need of healing.

Nutrition is medicine for the body.

Our awesome vendors bring medicine for the soul.

Major props to Jenn at Haluan Coffee and Tea for not only selling locally roasted goodness, but serving it with a major dose of love for humanity.

I love working farmers markets 🥰

Why?

Because we meet the most amazing people. We connect with people from all walks of life. Veterans struggling with life after service, people fighting battles with their mental health, and families who have lost someone they love to those battles.

Some people come to buy coffee and tea. Others find themselves sharing stories they've been carrying for years.

We've listened to people talk about their struggles, their grief, their fears, and the loved ones they've lost. Sometimes they need advice, but often they just need someone willing to listen. Sometimes they need an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, or a hug to remind them they aren't alone 🙏🏻

And that's what we try to give them.

We don't pretend to have all the answers. We're not therapists, and we can't fix everything someone is going through. But we can offer kindness, compassion, understanding, and a safe space for someone to get something off their chest without feeling judged.

Sometimes a simple conversation can help someone feel seen, heard, and a little less alone.

That's why mental health is more than a cause we support. It's part of who we are and what we do every time we set up our booth.

We dedicate 50% of our profits to supporting veterans through mental health resources, entrepreneurship opportunities, and assistance for those facing difficult times.

We want every bag of coffee and every cup of tea to help build something bigger than our business.

…Because at Haluan, we don't just serve coffee and tea. We make time for people. We listen to their stories. We honor those we've lost. And we remind those still fighting that they don't have to face everything alone 🫶
