Shall we then? 😂🙌 Haven’t done a Grand Harvest in a while, so let’s do it! It will be out of the oven at 1:30, but it’s going to take ALL day to cool off, so you’ll have to ask for it to come out of the house!

The bright side? 🤫 Only you all will know about it! 😂

Mixing the dough for artisan bread! 🍞🙌 It needs to rise for an hour, then get weighed and separated, have the inclusions added, rise again for 30 minutes, get topped, and bake for another 30 minutes. So, do the math and plan accordingly if you want warm bread! 😂🔥

So this isn’t the update that any of us wanted. This isn’t the outcome we hoped for or even fully expected.

Today marks the hardest day on the farm we have experienced yet. This life isn’t for everyone, and days like these make us question it, too.

Yesterday was a good day with Limu. He seemed strong and like he was doing the best he could under such an awful circumstance. The vet got here as quickly as he could, and we did everything possible for him. He even spoke with an expert at UC Davis for more advice.

This morning, his sedatives wore off, and he was walking around... In pain, of course, but mobile. We had hope. Unfortunately, it's hard to even comprehend it but he didn’t make it to the evening.

We would like to think Limu died a hero because he was a great protector of this farm, and we can only assume he did just that. All of our other animals are unharmed, and Limu managed to get away from whatever attacked him, and fought him for about 500 feet to the back of the property and over a fence.

Whatever it was didn’t come back last night, even though it knew there was prey here. A predator isn’t likely to pick off the strongest of a flock or herd, and I will say the sheep would have been an easy target, while Limu was known to fight back… and fight hard.

Today was hard, and it is a day we will never forget.

Rest easy, Limu. You were more than just an animal on this farm. You were a protector and hold a special place in our hearts. You will be missed more than words can say. 💔

Pumpkin tarts are now in the big fridge next to the pumpkin pies! 🎃

The filling is kind of like a pumpkin pie swirled with just a 🤏 bit of cheesecake, topped with homemade whipped cream!

You know me, I’m always honest about new recipes I test. I will say, they are pretty dang tasty! 😋 But next time, I’ll have to make some adjustments to my tart crust recipe because they’re just on the delicate side.

Too good to not let you try it, but I thought you might appreciate my honest opinion! ❤️

If you came to the shack today and things seemed a little off, it’s because it has been a very hard day here on the farm. ❤️

First, thank you to the hundreds of you who called and messaged us this morning. The amount of love and concern you’ve shown means more than you know.

As many of you know, one of our emus was attacked and dragged out of our yard today by what appears to have been a mountain lion. For those of you who have been wondering how he is doing, Limu is okay, but we have a long road ahead of us.

Our vet has been with us all day. Limu was cleaned and sedated, and the vet was able to put in as many stitches as possible. We will continue administering antibiotics and doing everything we can to help him heal. ❤️‍🩹

As you can imagine, the farm has been a little chaotic today, and the shack may reflect that. We are fully stocked with tons of goodies, but you might find a few things in different places, and some items may not be priced just yet. Please don’t hesitate to reach out or ask for help navigating—we’re here to help!

Thank you for being patient with us today, and especially for showing so much love for Limu. Our animals are family, and today has been a tough reminder of just how quickly things can change. We appreciate this community more than words can say. ❤️

Weather like this week is exactly WHY we built the shack! 🙌 It's usually either too hot, too windy, or too rainy to open a typical stand, but the shack allows us to stay open year-round! ❤️

We are OPEN for this rainy day, just with a little less stuff because, whew, what another VERY busy week! 😅

Thank you again, community, for keeping this little thing alive! We truly couldn't do it without you! 🥹❤️

For those of you waiting for fresh artisan, it is in its second rise and should be out of the oven around 1:30 PM! 🍞

For the many new people following us, it is available right out of the oven, but you will need to press the button on the robot to have it brought out, as it does sit on the cooling rack inside until it cools enough for me to bag it and bring it out to the Shack.

Another thing for all the new people, you do want it warm 🤭 there is NOTHING that beats my fresh-from-the-oven artisan bread! 😍 It’s what started this whole thing! ❤️
