Tiki Hut

Tiki Hut Keeping friends updated on the happenings of the Tiki Hut, when produce is in, and prices Hi friends! The produce I grow on the property is better than organic.

Some of you may not know what the Tiki Hut Farm Market is about. We built the tiki hut last year (2014) after I realized I needed an upgrade over my card table I sold produce out of in 2013. The tiki hut is made from Bass trees found on our property, and thatched with grass grown from my aunt's property. It was a bit of a challenge putting it together (as with the geodome green house) but we are g

lad we did. It gave us a unique platform to sell our veggies and fruit out of. It is grown with 0 pesticides, and I do my best to use only natural fertilizers and no herbicides. Sustained agriculture is one of my many passions. Demand for my vegetables and fruit was high enough that I had to start looking for local farmers and Amish communities who wholesale me vegetables to sell to the public. I also received tremendous help from local farm markets like Q's Plants in Hersey, Circle Farms in Baldwin Mi, and Hearty Harvest in Remus, MI. Without their help, I would have an awesome tiki hut, but with no high quality vegetables and fruit to sell. Each week we keep growing and getting better, and I invite the public, my customers, and anyone else vested in sustained agriculture to come grow with me :)

I want to give you a short tour of our “edible hillside” that we have been slowly working on the last several years! It’s the hill you see behind us as you checkout 🙂 Farming up hills is challenging but we’re making the best of what we got!

You will love the Thundbergia (aka vining Black Eyed Susan) baskets we just got in. They love to climb and have cute yellow or orange and black flowers throughout the plant. I just stuck my pot in the ground last year and trellised it up, but there are a ton of things you can do with it. $21.95 each or buy 2 or more for $19.99 each. We have lots!

Pruning your petunias and calibrachoa is a great way to make sure your baskets last all the way until fall! (Usually in early July around here… if they need it). Also, don’t forget your weekly fertilizer! Do you get hungry?? So do your plants. There is little to no nutrition in potting mix so it’s essential to give them some food!

🌸 Flower Flats – Still Available! 🌸

We STILL have a solid selection of flower flats — marigolds, moss rose, petunias, begonias, alyssum, cleome, and more… but once they’re gone, they’re gone!

We won’t be bringing in any more flats this season, so now’s the time to stock up. As summer rolls in and flower sales slow down, we switch to larger pots and bigger flats that handle the heat better — but they do cost more.

Right now prices are:
• $1.50 per 4-pack
• $2.99 per 6-pack
➡️ That’s roughly 36–44 plants for around $18, depending on the flat you use! (Sorry, we have multiple wholesale nurseries with different size flats so it’s difficult to give exact flat prices)

Its a great time to fill your beds, borders, or planters

Rain hopefully today! Heat next week! The absolute best time to plant is when Mother Nature cooperates with some rain. We still have a pretty good selection of Tomatoes, Greens, Squash, Petunias, Marigolds, Vinca, and a lot more! Leave me a comment with what you’re looking for and I’ll try to answer (I get a little busy so it may take an hour or two)
