Are you on a budget? We are also. Gas prices, food cost, we pray it will end, change, subside, give us a break already. What can we do? I always say that no matter what don’t let the economy dictate what you want to do. Go out and do stuff anyway because life is short and worth living. Are we your guilty pleasure? Cheat day? Or maybe you have a metabolism like my friends Aaron or Madison who never ever gain weight no matter what they eat. Anyway it’s Friday and the freshest hand breaded fish awaits you for our Friday fish fry. It’s hand breaded, using the southern method of frying fish. Light, crispy and full of flavor with more fish than breading. We only use fresh whitefish and walleye from John Cross Fisheries. The moment they fillet it, they bring it to us. You can’t get fresher fish than that. All of our fish dinners include homemade sides of fresh cut fries, hush puppies and coleslaw! It’s Friday ! It’s fish fry day!

Our featured restaurant of the week is Toonie's Fish & Steak House, located at 216 North Bridge Street, Bellaire, Michigan. Toonie's is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

They offer a whitefish fish sandwich on their lunch menu along with various appetizers, sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads and burgers.

Their dinner menu offers delicious entree features of steak, pasta, chicken, fish and seafood. They have a whitefish with a pecan crust or you can have it pan fried, grilled or blackened.

Absolutely!!!

Who has the best fish n chips? We leave that for you to decide. We do put a lot of work into ours though every Friday. You see there’s a difference between fresh vs. frozen and being locally sourced. Most places use frozen fish and or prepackaged from a big chain. Or they even lie to you about what’s being served. Like serving Zander as lake perch, it’s not only misleading but dangerous. Because what if there’s a recall on a specific fish and they’re lying? Is this true? Is this really happening? Let’s put it another way: if the price sounds too good to be true then it usually is. With us you get the real deal. We use the breaded method creating a light crispy exterior to house large tender flaky portions of fresh whitefish and walleye that we get from John Cross Fisheries. We don’t use gloppy, thick as your arm b**r batter. Our fresh fish dinners include all homemade sides as well. We make everything from scratch here. Fresh cut fries, hushpuppies, coleslaw and tartar sauce. And Our tartar sauce? It’s actual tartar sauce made with fresh dill, lemon, capers, mayonnaise and seasoning, it’s not out of a jug loaded with sugar.

Our restaurant feature this week is the Terrace Inn & The 1911 Restaurant located at 1549 Glendale Avenue in Petoskey, Michigan. Their menu has many wonderful choices starting with appetizers which includes a Smoked Whitefish Dip, salads and entrees featuring a Whitefish Fried Rice. If you wonder why you haven’t been able to get perch lately, this might be part of the reason why! This is from the belly of a lake trout caught in Lake Huron near Port Austin. The perch never have a chance to reach full size when they are being dined upon by other fish.
