The importance of regenerative farming cannot be overstated. Our farm implements a rotation grazing system for poultry, sheep, pigs, and steers. We adopt a no-till approach to avoid soil disturbance, relying on the animals' manure to fertilize the soil. We do not engage in the mass transportation of manure; instead, we rotate the animals to new areas, allowing the previous locations to absorb the manure. This method results in the production of rich, fertile soil. Refer to the attached image, which illustrates the area where our Cornish cross chicken tractor was previously located. The grass exhibits significant regrowth, appearing healthier and greener. Future posts will delve into the benefits of regenerative farming. 🙂

📣 PRICE DROP 📣

We are adjusting our egg prices for June. A dozen eggs will be sold for just $1 🤯... starting in July our final egg price will drop to $2 per dozen. During the $1 dozen promotion in June, we will limit purchases to three dozen per person per week. This will enable us to share the offer with as many customers as possible.

Now, regarding delivery, the price will remain at $3 per dozen. Unfortunately, fuel costs are too high for us to adjust this price. 🫤

This past weekend was a busy one, as we completed a six-week cycle of raising meat chickens. The time had come to process them, a task that, although not our favorite, is an essential part of farm life. The process itself was lengthy, but our trepidation was rooted in the fact that it marked the end of the chickens' lives. Raising one's own food, whether vegetables or meats, can be a gratifying experience. However, it also necessitates making sacrifices to provide for one's family. Therefore, it is vital to maintain a deep respect for the animals that will ultimately provide for us. I can confidently state that these chickens received outstanding care and respect from the moment they arrived as chicks until they were put in the freezer.

I would like to pause and highlight the reality of chicken math, which has had a profound impact on our operations. One year ago, we started with 16 chicks from a hatchery, and, in retrospect, this decision had unforeseen repercussions. Within a single year of embarking on our chicken-keeping journey, our flock grew from 16 to around 103 birds. In light of this experience, I recommend that others explore alternative options, such as purchasing eggs or meat chicken from us, to avoid the challenges associated with chicken math. 😉
