Holy moly!

It doesn’t get much better than this! This truck is overflowing with fresh fall!

On the truck this week:
Green beans, spinach, green tomatoes, pac choi, red tomatoes, baby cucumbers, red and green lettuce heads (as well as mix!), turnips, red and yellow onions, potatoes, curly kale, garlic, sweet potatoes, green bell, poblano and sweet peppers, radishes, warty mini pumpkin, jack-o-lantern pumpkins, mumms, jonathan apples, golden delicious apples, acorn squash, decorative gourds, basil, dill, butternut squash… the list goes on!

Here’s our final Food Works Mobile Market staff spotlight! Meet Indigo! Indigo was also our winter market assistant last year and we are so excited they joined our mobile market team!

Indigo enjoys gardening, cooking, and eating (of course), as well as being outdoors in the Shawnee, doing different crafts, and cuddling with their pets. Their special talent is making a really good vegan chili!

If Indigo were a veggie they “would be a pumpkin because they’re beautiful (as decorative pumpkins or Jack-o-lanterns) and versatile. They can be prepared sweet (pumpkin pie) or salty!”

When asked why they wanted to work for Mobile market, they said, “I’ve always been a voracious reader, and I read Barbara Kingsolver’s “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle” at a formative age. None of my family was farmers, or even gardeners, but I had caught the bug! I love working for FoodWorks and MFM because it lets me get back to my roots, pun intended!”

Indigo had a biodynamic farming apprenticeship in Germany where they worked on a couple different small organic farms, before moving back to southern Illinois. They are now a yoga teacher & Thai yoga massage practitioner at Wildflower Wellness in Carbondale. In the future, they would love to someday publish a novel!
