“Teach the children. We don’t matter so much, but the children do. Show them daisies and the pale hepatica. Teach them the taste of sassafras and wintergreen. The lives of the blue sailors, mallow, sunbursts, the moccasin-flowers. And the frisky ones–inkberry, lamb’s-quarters, blueberries. And the aromatic ones–rosemary, oregano. Give them peppermint to put in their pockets as they go to school. Give them the fields and the woods and the possibility of the world salvaged from the lords of profit. Stand them in the stream, head them upstream, rejoice as they learn to love this green space they live in, its sticks and leaves and then the silent, beautiful blossoms. Attention is the beginning of devotion.”

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”

I love the trees
For they remind me of
The importance of shedding and releasing
What no longer serves me

I love the flowers
For they remind me
That I may blossom freely and confidently
And embrace my unique beauty

I love the mountains
For they remind me
To remain solid, strong
And not easily moved or shaken
By all that surrounds me

I love the sun
For it shows me
The importance of shining brightly and unashamedly

I love the moon
For it reveals to me
That while I may shift through many phases
I am no less beautiful or worthy
When I don't feel whole

I love the rivers
For they remind me
To flow freely through life without resistance

I love the stars
For they remind me
That my surroundings do not define me

I love the plants
For they remind me
To regrow and regenerate continually

And I love the ocean
For it reminds me
That I may calm and soothe myself
Following the storms of life
And that they need not destroy me.

The Delightful Legend of the P***y Willow

According to an old Polish legend, many springtimes ago a mother cat was crying at the bank of the river in which her kittens were drowning. The willows at the river’s edge longed to help her, so they swept their long graceful branches into the waters to rescue the tiny kittens who had fallen into the river while chasing butterflies. The kittens gripped on tightly to their branches and were safely brought to shore. Each springtime since, goes the legend, the willow branches sprout tiny fur-like buds at their tips where the tiny kittens once clung.
