Apricots, seamoss, and succulents! You read that right.

Joining us this week are guest vendors Casey Hubbard with pottery and succulents🌵, and Herb Bliss with Full Spectrum Seamoss infused products! 🪸🍹

Casey recently moved to Cottonwood from Alaska, which is where he made the majority of his current pottery collection! He fell in love with the desert, and built a vertical garden in his backyard which has turned into a small nursery. You can also find him playing with clay at Rovang Ceramics in Sedona.

Herb Bliss is the creation of raw vegan chefs Michelle Carney and her husband from Tempe. They craft nutrient dense gels, drinks and foods infused with Full Spectrum Seamoss harvested from East Africa. These are unique value-added products handmade just south of us in the Valley of the Sun, and Herb Bliss is excited to share their knowledge of this superfood with our community!

How does one eat these strange-but-beautiful, weird-but-wonderful vegetables?

Lettuce introduce you to the Daikon Radish and Kohlrabi! Intimidating at first glance, but oh-so versatile and easy to eat (yes, including the leaves)! They are both of the Brassicaceae (mustard or cruciferous) family, and have the peppery crunch to prove it.

🫜 Daikon Radish
Less spicy than other radishes with subtle sweetness. If you're a nerd for food science, flavor notes actually vary throughout the top, middle, and end! Nutritional benefits include: vitamin B6, folate, and potassium.

🥬 Kohlrabi
In German, kohl means “cabbage,” and rabi means “turnip," hence the name! Sweet, juicy, and somewhere between a cabbage and an apple. Nutritional benefits include vitamin C, fiber, and potassium.

Try either RAW with dip, hummus, or a little salt and lemon. COOK them by roasting on a sheet pan, tossing into soup, or, our personal favorite, stir frying. PREPARE them by slicing, shaving or PICKLING for salads or slaws.

A moment of admiration for a compost scrap pile that is its own kind of beautiful, plus a locally sourced bouquet that has more of less survived the last few weeks.

If you’re interested in composting, come to the market and meet Kelsey with Verde Valley Compost! You can learn about their compost pick up service, or exchange buckets if you already participate. A new addition you can find at the market is the “compost tea” to enhance your plants.

Verde Valley Compost wants to turn your trash into treasure! You’re invited to bring your food scraps and donate them whenever they are at the market.
