✨ Little life update from our homestead ✨

Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet on posting, replying to comments, and giving updates lately. Our littles got hit with the yukies and we’ve been in full-on family recovery mode over here. 🤧💛

It feels like it’s always something, doesn’t it? We’re taking it one day at a time and hoping to get everyone feeling better so we can jump back into our normal routines very soon.

Thank y’all for sticking around, checking in, and showing love while things are a little slower over here. I’m so over these bugs making the rounds. 😭

We’ll be back to garden updates, homestead chaos, and all the critter content soon enough. 🌱🐣🫶🏻

Fresh tallow rendered down and tucked away in the freezer, fresh strawberries cleaned and hulled ready for homemade jam, and extra berries frozen for smoothies and future treats. 🍓🫐

We’ve also got fresh blueberries stocked up and ready to be turned into jam — maybe even blueberry syrup too. Between the tallow, jams, syrups, and freezer stash, we’ve been staying busy getting everything processed and preserved for the months ahead.

I’ve been one busy mama lately. 😂 Now I need a nap… or to binge a show for the rest of the night. Who knows at this point.

Nothing beats a productive homestead kitchen filled with fresh food and homemade goodies. 🫙✨

Oh you know… the homestead assistant is completely obsessed with the bobwhites already. 🥹🐥

These tiny little fluff nuggets have officially stolen his heart. Watching him sit there so gently loving on them is one of my favorite parts of homestead life. Moments like this make all the work worth it. ❤️

The bobwhites may be tiny now, but they already have him wrapped around their little toes. 😂

This week’s forecast in Central Texas is basically: “Congratulations, your garden is thriving… but everything else is soaked.” 😂🌧️⛈️

We’ve got storms rolling through almost every day, severe weather warnings, crazy winds, and enough rain to turn the yard into a swamp. The birds are about to be little stinky mud babies until I can get in there for a deep clean once everything dries out. 😅🐥

BUT… the garden is absolutely LOVING this weather. Tomatoes are loading up, peppers are pushing growth, and everything is about to explode with green growth. More tomatoes and peppers? Yessss please. 🌱🍅🌶️

Texas weather stays chaotic, but at least the plants are happy. 😂

The Bobwhite stares have officially begun… always judging, always watching. 😂🐥

New Bobwhite babies are hatching, and I’m so excited to start building up my numbers with these little guys since they’re currently my smallest group.

While I’m getting my Coturnix breeding projects squared away, I’ll be focusing heavily on growing my Bobwhite flock too. Watching these tiny babies hatch never gets old. ❤️

Garden harvests just hit different when they come straight from your own backyard. ❤️🍅🌶️

This week’s harvest gave us beautiful Roma tomatoes, handfuls of cherry tomatoes, and some gorgeous snacking peppers fresh from the garden. Every little basket feels like a reminder that all the watering, pruning, fertilizing, and Texas heat battles are worth it in the end.

Not pictured are the blueberries that went straight into the freezer while I get ready to make homemade jam. 🫐✨

Slowly but surely, the homestead is feeding our family more each week, and honestly… that’s one of the best feelings in the world.

Doing evening chores with my assistant homesteader (my kiddo) today — refilling food and water for the grow out pen — and suddenly all the babies decided they wanted a little field trip outside for some grass and sunshine. 🥹🪴

My son was so worried they’d fly away, but I told him, “No baby, they’re comfortable here. They know they’re safe.” And sure enough, they just calmly wandered around the yard enjoying themselves before heading right back.

Their calm, docile temperament is honestly one of my favorite things about my birds. When I eventually start offering some of my personal lines, that sweet temperament will definitely be one of their biggest selling points. 🤍

These little ones are currently 3 weeks old and staying in a two-tier rabbit hutch as their grow out pen for now. Once they’re a bit older, they’ll be upgraded into a larger setup.

Found this gorgeous little stick bug outside today and I just had to share it with y’all. 😍 Nature really makes some of the coolest tiny creatures. Look at that camouflage!

Thought y’all would enjoy seeing this beauty too. 🪴✨

Baby quail days are the best around here.
🐣

Everyone’s getting banded by type — jumbo whites, blacks, celadons, and some beautiful progressive pieds.

They’re all so tiny and adorable, and now our Snowflakes are starting to hatch tonight too. My heart is so full watching all these little babies arrive. 🤍✨

Happy Saturday from Central Texas ☀️🍓

It’s HOT and sunny today, so we loaded up all the kids — including my bonus daughter — and headed to a local strawberry farm for some family fun. ❤️

We picked over 12 lbs of fresh strawberries! Now it’s time to turn them into homemade strawberry jam, freeze some for later, and maybe sneak a few straight from the bowl because the possibilities are endless. 🍓✨

Of course, I had to stop and take photos of the beautiful wildflowers along the way too. 🌼💛

And yes… I absolutely had my husband carrying my purse for me the whole time, and the berries to go weigh. 🤣👜

How do y’all like to use fresh strawberries? Jam, desserts, freezing, syrup? 👇

Send me your recipes if you have any. 🫶🏻

Tiny little backyard adventures with my boy (The Assistant Homesteader) and some of our 3 week old Coturnix quail today 🐥❤️

Please ignore my crazy voice and ridiculous laugh in the video 😂

One thing I absolutely love about this batch is how calm, gentle, and docile they are. These babies weren’t hatched from outside hatching eggs — they came directly from my own personal covey here at home, and their temperament has honestly been amazing. They’re curious, sweet, and already so comfortable being handled out in the yard.

We also officially have a favorite… the little brown and white chick we named “Pengeyy ” (aka Penguin 🐧) because of his/her coloring. That baby completely stole the show today and has the cutest personality already.

Moments like this are exactly why we love raising quail on our little homestead. Watching the kids bond with animals they helped hatch and care for is something special. 🌿✨
