This is the first and only official statement that is being made by the Mandella Market family, any previous statements or posts made in any relation to our name were not made by us or run by us.
From the Mandella Market Family:
To start, we want to extend our deepest and most heartfelt apologies directly to the woman who was affected by the events that occurred on Tuesday, September 10th. We are deeply sorry for the harm, pain, and distress this incident caused you. We also extend our sincerest apologies to her family, and to all of the other community members who were hurt by these actions.
We are so deeply embarrassed and disgusted with the events that took place that evening. I’m sure as everyone has seen by now we had an incident occur in our store with a community member that escalated more than it should have and was handled very very poorly by the employees working that night. Any form of violence or aggression has NO place in the Mandella Market or in our community whatsoever. We do not condone the actions that occurred by our former employees and would like to give our sincerest apologies to the woman who was affected, her family, and all of the other community members that felt hurt by these actions. Moving forward, we are making significant changes to ENSURE that an incident like this will never happen again. Additionally, we are currently working with law enforcement to address the events that occurred and everyone that was involved.
To the members of our community- we hear you loud and clear. And we are taking every word into consideration on how to make our space a more inclusive, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for every neighbor and friend of our community. First and foremost, every employee that was present and involved in this incident has been permanently terminated and the store will have new appointed management. Secondly, we are going to mandate that our employees must undergo conflict resolution training to ensure that every member of our staff is exceptionally qualified to handle any sort of conflict moving forward. Thirdly, we will now be currently looking to hire new members into our Mandella Market community, specifically adding more diversity so that anyone and everyone feels as though they have a place with us and are welcome.
That being said, we will be keeping our store closed until further notice in order for us all to continue to reflect and use this learning experience to make sure an incident will never occur again. Thank you for listening and we hear you. Once again, we give our sincerest apologies. We are aiming for a future to heal these wounds and make sure that we create a safe, and welcoming space for all of our brothers and sisters.
