We ended up pulling the girls back to the house just before . They were on the Peace River in Punta Gorda and were expected to come up against a serious storm surge.

The last storm surge from was about a foot from taking the hives out. was supposed to be about a 12 ft. surge. So with little gas in the tank and none in sight, we went on a mission to save the ladies.

We spent the whole day rescuing over 500,000 bees. Many ladies were unfortunately lost as they were out foraging when we moved the hives, however we saved the and colony.

Milton gave us a close call. Many downed tree branches and power lines, but the girls are safe and secure! We’ll get them back out to pollinate any flowers that survived the strong winds of Milton.

We had a newbee come and help today with an extraction. We rescued a hive from a neighbor. These little ladies have a Queen cell waiting to be born. We will feed them some pollen and sugar water to help them with the upcoming storm.

You may have seen a mellow voiced beekeeper on instagram who relocates beehives without any protective gear; here’s a photo of why that will never be me.
The queen bees run the vibe of the hive and sometimes they turn out to be Africanized, meaning they are highly aggressive. The rest of the hive adopts the attitude of the queen and in this instance, the temperament of the hive gifted me dozens of stings, some of which made it through my gloves.
Let this be a reminder that just because you’ve seen someone do it on instagram, you shouldn’t attempt to handle bees without the proper protective equipment 🤙🏼

When you work the hives and you find a friend. When we were working the hives in Buffalo, this little lady wanted to get warm and hang out with my mom. This bee stayed in there for about 45 mins and then we took her back home. 🐝
