It’s been a dream to see the Farmer’s Market & Artisan Shop have such great success over the last few years. I love seeing so many gifted farmers and artists, meeting new friends from all over and seeing old friends that I have seldom seen for many years but it’s time to turn the page. As most of you know, our new home is right down the street with Nikki Hollen at Essence of Energy, 61 Marion Street, Buckhannon. Nikki’s mission to uplift the health and wellness of our community mirrors the vision that sparked the Farmer’s Market—a commitment to nourishing our neighbors with fresh, local food and handcrafted goods. This is more than a business transition; it’s a passing of the torch to someone who shares our values and understands the labor of love that this market represents.
Nikki knows, as I do, that the Farmer’s Market isn’t about getting rich—it’s about enriching lives. It’s about the farmer who rises before dawn to bring us crisp vegetables, the artisan who pours their heart into every creation, and the families who gather to connect, share, and support their neighbors. I’m confident Nikki will carry this vision forward with passion, and I’ll be cheering her on as one of her biggest supporters (and customers!).
I’d also like to share a personal note. First off, let me apologize to our customers that were present on July 2, 2025, I sincerely apologize for any stress that was caused to you and your children. 2nd, I want to apologize to all our customers and vendors for any inconvenience this has caused. Most of our patrons know, that I was arrested at the Farmer’s Market a few weeks ago for allegedly selling h**p to a person under the age of 21 back in January of 2024 at the former EndoSolutions location on Main Street. Most of my patrons also know that I am very conscientious about h**p safety and thought I had taken precautions and practices to make sure this would never be a question so to find out I am being charged with selling to a person under 21 was not only surprising but devastating. To make things worse, recent legislation has changed things drastically. It’s not like selling alcohol, to***co or other Federally legal and state approved products in West Virginia, where law enforcement come in immediately after the sale and give a citation for a misdemeanor and a $50- $250 fine. H**p sellers are being targeted with multi-year long investigations where under cover agents are being sent in over and over again to build up multiple charges. So as soon as you find out you have been charged for misjudging a person’s age or failing to check an I.D. card properly, instantly you can be facing 3 felonies which include up to 3 years in state prison, $15,000 in fines, losing the right to vote, the right to own a gun, the right to leave the state, lose job opportunities, lose the ability to teach or even coach among many other things. After checking attorney fees I quickly realized that I needed to redirect my focus and resources so I contacted Nikki to see if she was interested in taking over and my prayers were answered. Thank you Nikki!!
I hope you join me and make Essence of Energy a routine stop and keep the market going. Bring your friends and make sure we have a place in Buckhannon to get produce and meat from West Virginia year round.
Thank you all,
Tom
