Beaches are opening!

🍤 Georgia shrimp season is officially opens tomorrow! 🍤

Starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, commercial shrimpers can once again head out into Georgia's territorial waters to harvest one of our coast's most iconic seafoods: wild Georgia shrimp.

From shrimp boats working offshore to fresh catches arriving at local docks, markets and restaurants, the opening of shrimp season marks the beginning of another chapter in a tradition that has supported Georgia's coastal communities for generations.

So if you've been craving fresh, local shrimp, now's the time to keep an eye out for the real deal. 🦐

A reminder that commercial shrimp trawlers are required to use turtle excluder devices (TEDs) and bycatch reduction devices (BRDs) to help protect sea turtles and other marine life.

Big win for our industry!

The Southern Shrimp Alliance (SSA) stated that Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed House Bill (HB) 117 into law on May 6, requiring food service establishments serving imported shrimp to clearly notify customers through menu labels or placards visible to the public.

It finally passed!!

Consumers deserve honesty when they sit down to order seafood. 🦐

Georgia has officially signed the Shrimp Transparency Bill into law, requiring restaurants to clearly disclose when shrimp is foreign imported instead of U.S. wild-caught. This is a huge step forward for transparency, informed consumer choice, and supporting American sh*****ng families.

When customers know where their seafood comes from, they can make the choice to support hardworking U.S. fishermen and trusted domestic seafood. 🇺🇸
