Big thanks to all who came out to market yesterday! It is so fulfilling to see all the food we’ve been hauling out of the field, through the barn, into trucks, and out onto tables finally get chosen and taken home :) It’s fun to imagine hundreds of you all cutting into the same veggies in your kitchens when we finally get a chance to stop and do some cooking of our own. Thank you for being part of this farm, one good supper at a time!
If you’d like to keep it up all through the winter, you can join our Winter CSA Share. You’ll get a big box of all the winter staples once a month and save a few bucks in the process. It’s $350 for all six months of Maine winter, November through April. Pickups are on the second Saturday in Dresden, Portland, and Boothbay, and on the following Tuesday in Damariscotta. We mix up a well-balanced share of our certified organic storage crops plus fresh greens when possible. You can pay by check at the farm stand or when we see you at market this week. Come ask us about it! The first pickup is November 14th.

After a very full summer and a pretty wild stretch of fall events, I’m taking a few days off and doing my best to actually stay off.

The outdoor market season is wrapped up, but there is plenty more coming. I’ll be back out in the wild October 25 for our first Thompson’s Point Makers Market of the season, and then back in Brunswick on November 14 for the Indoor Winter Market.
For now, a little rest, a lot of restocking, and hopefully not much vinegar for a few days. See you soon.

Whatley Farm

We had our first frost on Wednesday morning, and while it only killed the basil outright, it also ended our tomato and cucumber production, so the window is closing on getting bulk paste tomatoes and pickling cucumbers if you were planning on doing that! We will have plenty for another week or so, but please email ([email protected]) if you want to get over 10 # of either. Bulk pricing is $3/ # for 20 #+ of paste tomatoes, $3.50/ # for 10 #+ of picklers.

The colder weather welcomes new members of the brassica family to our spread at market: multiple varieties of daikon and winter radishes, kohlrabi, cabbage and rutabaga. And leeks are in, too.

Our outdoor farmers markets aren’t over yet! The BTLT Farmers Market at Crystal Spring Farm (Saturdays 8:30-12:30) runs through 11/7, and the Brunswick Farmers Market downtown (Tues/Fri 8-1) runs through Tuesday 11/24. The Brunswick Winter Market at Fort Andross/Cabot Mill starts on Saturday 11/14 and runs through the end of April.
