Do you know what alpha-gal syndrome is? Do you/ someone you know have alpha-gal syndrome?
If you don’t know what it is, alpa-gal syndrome (AGS), also known as red meat allergy, is a serious allergic reaction to alpha-gal, a sugar found in mammals, triggered by tick bites. Symptoms can be mild to life-threatening and can include hives, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing, and anaphylaxis. AGS is primarily linked to bites from the Lone Star tick in the US, but other ticks worldwide can also cause it.
Companies are now finding ways to genetically modify pigs so that people with alpha gal syndrome can eat pork and doctors can use the organs for medical reasons.
Washington County Meat Packing is 1 of 3 packing plants to process and distribute Gal-Safe Pork. We are currently not shipping, but we plan to start shipping early November when the weather starts to cool. We are located in Bristol, Virginia feel free to stop by and pick up!
