Welcome to the New Hampshire Marathon, runners! 🏃‍♂️🌲

The big day is almost here! We are thrilled to welcome athletes from all over to experience the incredible peak autumn foliage around the beautiful Newfound Lake area. Whether you are tackling the full marathon, the half, or the 10K, you’ve done the training—now it’s time to crush those goals!

An event of this scale simply wouldn't be possible without our incredible community. A massive thank you goes out to the dedicated volunteers who are out here cheering, directing traffic, and keeping everyone safe, as well as the generous sponsors whose continued support makes this race a reality every single year.

Over 30 years ago, Ralph Shackett and a committee of dedicated community members introduced the New Hampshire marathon to our Newfound Lake Community. Shackett’s Store is grateful to continue offering our support and sponsorship to the marathon. 

💧 Runner Reminder: As you push through the course, don't forget to pace yourself and stay hydrated! There is a dedicated water stop right at Shackett's Store in Bristol to keep you fueled and moving strong.

“Why are you seasonal, why don’t you stay open through the fall?” 🤔🍂
We hear this question a lot as summer comes to a close! While we wish the sunshine and season could last forever, packing up on, or this year before, Labor Day is a very intentional choice for our business.
Here is a look behind the scenes at why we pack it in for the year:
📉 The Market Shifts
Once end of August hits, the local foot traffic dramatically slows down. There simply isn’t enough market demand or local activity to sustainably keep our doors open through the colder months.
👩‍🏫 Our Team Heads Back to School
We are incredibly proud of our crew, but our workforce relies heavily on local students and teachers. As the school year starts up again, their focus rightfully shifts back to the classrooms, leaving us without the staff needed to maintain our operations.
⚖️ Work-Life Balance Matters
We love what we do, but we also love our families and our downtime. Closing out the season allows our family and our team to rest, recharge, and find a healthy balance so we can come back even stronger next year!
Thank you all for an incredible summer season. We couldn’t do this without our amazing community! 💛

We often get asked what happens to all of our food at the end of the season.We are proud to share that we donate a large portion of our remaining food to Bristol Community Services, which is run by Susan Colby. Organizations like Bristol Community Services provide invaluable resources for local families in our area.If you ever find yourself with extra food or items to donate, please keep this wonderful organization in mind for the future. Thank you for helping us support our community.

Shackett’s Store and the Shack are officially wrapped up for 2026.

We want to extend a huge thank you to our phenomenal customers, hardworking staff, and reliable vendors who make it possible for us to keep doing what we love year after year. We couldn't do it without you!

Cheers to a fantastic winter, and we will see you all in 2027 for season #83! 🥂

We want to make sure you get your final fixes, so here is exactly when you can find us before we close the doors:🏠 The Store Hours starting Monday Aug 24: Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat 8am-6pm. Sunday Aug 30 8am - 1pm - Our absolute LAST DAY of the season!🍔 The Shack HoursFriday, August 28: 4:00 PM – 8:30 PM, Saturday, August 29: 11:00 AM – 8:30 PM🎁 Sunday, August 30: FREE ICE CREAM DAY! 🎉Yes, you read that right!
