😅 Everyone’s process looks different, but don’t get discouraged along the way.
Drexell & Honeybee’s started off as a dream in my heart. I saw an empty storefront in CA and I thought, one day it would be nice to have an ice cream shop called Drexell & Honeybee’s.
A few years later I moved back to Alabama, and I started making some meals and giving out coffees when I saw how senior citizens had to choose between food and medication. I realized that many in my community where struggling from food insecurity, so I started a Meals on Wheels program.
Later, through a conversation with one of our patrons, I realized that not many people have the opportunity of enjoying the small luxuries of life like eating at a restaurant…that’s when the donations-only model came to mind.
It took awhile to find the right property. Not many believed this could work, and when we found this building we didn’t open right away. We had a goal to pay off the building before we opened, so we patiently waited and worked hard.
Now we are who we are. We have given over 140,000 meals in a few short years with a small team and have been featured on the TODAY show, the Steve Harvey show etc. because we never gave up.
People might not always support your dream at the beginning, or you might think it’s going to be an ice cream shop at first, but I just want to encourage you…dreams take time, let them develop, be present where you are now, serve others, and let your passion and hard work lead you as you strive to make a difference in the world. 🌎 In due time you will see the fruit of your hard work and perseverance.
